PA's David Grainger

Hi all

My recollection of this is hazy but I'm wondering if someone can refresh my memory about:

1. Who David Grainger injured (broke someone's leg?) in that famous match with Glenelg all those years ago - and when & where that match was held;

2. If DG played for PA after that game (I don't seem to think he did);

3. If he has ever explained or defended what he did - or has he simply faded into space maybe mowing lawns somewhere? Anyone know what he does now?

2. Was sacked early in 1983 and never played for Port again. Played a bit of country footy after that.

if I was cycnical I could say that Granger waas used as a pawn by "the get rid of Cahill faction" of the PAFC with Rucci doing the spruiking via his day job as a 'tiser journalist.....

Out of nowhere in 1998 a 'Tiser article pops up solving the long asked question (???? ) of what really happened on Prelim final day 1982???

Granger's interview on Kg is one of the funniest things i have ever seen/heard. COMEDY GOLD. Jack didnt love me.

I remember the 5AA interview with Grave Danger as very compelling. Bit of an insight into internal politics at the club at the time. I think he was suggesting that there was a decision made at the senior levels of the club that Granger had to go after his shenanigans in the '82 Prelim final, despite the fact that (so he claimed) he was told to go out and do what he did that day. Dunno about the extent of the truth in what he was saying but it was interesting listening.

You're right about that. Stephen recalled that incident on 5AA's 'where are they now' segment a few months ago.

I'll third that, the bloke was a bloody good footballer. Anyone who knows anything about footy and saw him play can't dispute that.

Found a copy of the 1977 GF budget today in my collection (my Dad's cousin wore #26 for the Bays that day) Granger had his profile in it (along with Farqs, Steve Hywood, and Max James) his toughest opponent - Graham Cornes....

Hmmm Ironic Irony.....
