Ticket Sales Slow for the Power v Crows game

Talk on the national game

Postby Hondo » Fri Apr 13, 2007 12:50 pm

Don't under-estimate the impact of big-screen TVs making use of the live-against-the-gate TV coverage. People have friends over to watch, etc, don't have to travel there and back, park, etc

I think some Crows supporters would be avoiding the Port home crowd - doubt it's to avoid the shame of losing just prefer to watch it at home

Pretty weak excuse not to cos of violence factors. I support a Victorian side and have never had any trouble either in the outer or members. Get more trouble at SANFL games but that's just friendly banter anyway. Can't even get that out of the Crows and Power supporters. They all spend too much time bagging their own players.

Why not just use the obvious and honest excuse that they are not going because it is on TV live (free to air as well), it will save a heap of money, they don't have to travel, Footy Park is an awful venue and you can't enjoy a beer while watching the game.

I had some fun singing the Cat song after our one and only win at Blow up the Joint Stadium. People were saying sit down and shut up and cups were flying at me from all directions but it was all pretty good natured stuff. I was going EVERYBODY SING and more cups flew at me yet again LOL. Too bad about the seventeen losses there however!

Its a fact that Port struggle to sell out any home games at Footy Park MW,I agree. The 27,000 regulars that are present every home game some times swells to 30,000.Hardly what could be called 'bandwaggon' fans.

As opposed to a 'sell out' every Crow home game, which inevitably ends up with a crowd of 45,000,some 10,000 short of a full house.Granted, many of those 10,000 are Cat 1 members who follow Port, some of which I know, and they in the main go to all games at Footy Park.

So which clubs fans are not buying tickets this week?

If Adelaide have such a long waiting list for season tickets, surely, surely all these people waiting would have rushed out a got a ticket for Saturday.

Capacity is 51000, so "only" 6000 don't attend for reasons you gave Booney. :P

No wonder the Crows supporters are staying away, things just get better and better. Matthew Bode and Brett Burton are under injury clouds.

Bode still has several sore spots, while Burton was shown on a news break clutching his left hamstring.

I have even heard the reason that as it is a Port home game some Crows supporters won't attend as they can't sit in the regular seat they sit in at Crows home games - surely not ?

I went to last weeks game and didnt see any trouble??? what are people going on about?

Grow some bollocks crows supporters, or should i say crows followers because they certainly arent supporters if they dont support their team when they have an chance like this.

Agree the best atmostphere is when the crowd is close to 50 - 50... that is one of the best points of our game you can watch it next to an opposition supporter and you dont get into a blue... unlike soccer.

You know what?

It pisses me off no end that people get high and mighty about what a real supporter is. Who cares what a real supporter is. A lot of you make it sound like if you're a member, or even just a supporter - you need to go to every game, every week they play home and deal with everything else later.

Get it through your skulls that a LOT of people aren't as passionate as you!

And ... they don't HAVE TO BE.

People can go to games when they want. They can stay home, or do others things when they want. If someone has a membership and goes to 6 games for the year, who are you to tell them they are a bad person? And if someone doesn't want to go to a game because of a perceived danger, or issue - who cares? Let them! You don't know what they might have experienced before. Or.. seen before. I've never had an issue at a Power/Crows game but I do know people that have - and the things I've seen would understandably affect someone wanting to go.

And even if you don't agree with me - it's their decision.

There are die hard one eyed supporters of all clubs, and there are supporters who just like it here and there, when they can or want to. If only the die hard supporters had memberships and/or attended games - we'd have a fraction of the crowds we do.

The Crows came in and at the time, the marketing was brilliant. Many many people who either loosely followed a VFL club or none at all thought it were caught up in Camry Crow mania. Many people weren't as dedicated towards footy as other people but thought it was a fun new thing. There were people from all SANFL clubs and no club at all who decided to "get on board". The Crows and more importantly, their marketing, gathered together fans for them very different to other VFL/AFL clubs. Even with Port who came in later, had a very different breed and ideology to draw from. Prt had a presence, and a history, where as the Crows had to create the image of one, and start one from there.

This is the reason Crows supporters are thought of as they are. It's that simple. From day DOT, many non-footy followers decided to follow the Crows. For many, years after - it's an EASY OPTION. They love footy, they are South Australian... why not follow the Crows? That is a lot of people's thinking.

What am I trying to say? I have no idea.
But in the end, let people support as much or as little as they want.

And worry about YOU and your team - not anyone else.

Why don't Port Supporters take up the slack ...... surely there are more than 30,000 "supporters" (as opposed to "followers") in Adelaide?
