A part from that a trial match would be a great idea. Then we can sort out the girls form the men. Maybe we should keep an eye on our own back yards before we start sh!tting in everyone elses.

We had the arguement about 10yrs ago with some bafoons from North Haven about how they were better than Portland, so we played them in a night trial game. They didnt kick a goal!!!

Firstly no one on here has suggested North Haven are better than Portland, we aren't even better than West Croydon, A2M is getting stuck into North Haven for some reason and the Portland boys are agreeing with him. No one fron North Haven has stated anything on here about them being better than anybody so not sure why yo uare all getting so worked up.

Secondly I played in that game and it was bitter sweet for me unfortunately i dislocated my shoulder very early and missed about 6 weeks but I did get to pull Tim Doyle's pants down on the wing.
I have a problem. It's to do with the little man, the squashed-in French man, the naked little squashed up hairy boy! You know! With the hand feet

Geez, North Haven and Portland aren't even in the same division and that's all were hearing about.
I suggest someone starts a thread for these two clubs like a few years back so we don't have to hear about it all the time.
While your at it include Port Districts on the thread too. It is a happy triangle then.

I do however admit I would be looking forward to seeing a rivalry match this year between Port Dist and Portland.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the League move the Portland v Pt Districts games to Thebby to try and cash in on this MAMMOTH rivalry. Could make it a night game to increase the crowds, and they would get more the the Power too.

Why would any club (not just Port District or Portland) move their blockbuster games to Thebarton? A home game and all you get is the gate money and players and officials still pay to get in. No money from the canteen or bar. All clubs, seemingly try to look for the club least likely to draw an attendance and thus revenue, to play their home game. Not rocket science and every club does the same thing. The league might rightly point out the costs of hosting a game are high, however clubs are still loath to move one of their blockbuster home games away from their own club. They would alienate sponsors, members, etc, etc. Just won't happen unless a better deal can be stuck, which probably is not possible. Until then the clubs, will keep looking at the least attractive game to play away from home, for fear of losing money on the day.

If someone can put forward sensible ideas about how these blockbuster games can be moved to Thebarton, to the ''mutual benefit'' of everyone, it would be great to hear.

Does not matter who anyone plays for. This is just the realistic way that clubs look at the Thebarton situation. Thebarton is a terrific venue and all that, but clubs with good supporter bases are loath to move home games away anywhere, not just Thebarton, because of the fear that they will be financially disadvantaged. All I have asked is can anyone sensibly come up with an idea how this problem can be solved, if indeed it can be. Under the current agreement all clubs have to play once at Thebarton every 3 years and I would be surprised if any moved one of their big games there, for the points I highlighted.

Totaaly agree no financial advantage. Only advantage maybe for a Div 1 or 2 club to get on Thebarton before finals. Definately something that needs to be looked at.

Clubs will only be looking a the financial aspects of moving a game. Many or most players in D1 and D2 have played league, reserves or a good standard of football in the past. Many have played on a bigger stage before, so another game at Thebarton for experience is not really of concern, I would not have thought. Really just another ground to most players in D1 or D2 and no real gains from playing there.

a lot of college clubs have played their intercol games Norwood oval in the past because they know the crowd will be bigger, so whats the difference between there and Thebby?
Don't play games with a girl who can play 'em better...

This discussion was about using either the headquarters of amateur football at Thebarton or home games. Games at Norwood, should not really be used as an example. Trying to get the clubs to use Thebarton and not other venues. What would stop Port District and Portland playing the game at the Alberton Oval, if that be the case, because their supporter bases would not have to travel. Exactly the same scenario, but one that hopefully can be avoided with Thebarton hopefully given the nod over all other venues, by the clubs.
