Interesting side note on pick 6. This is from AFL site regarding the best selection at each pick from the draft. Compared to the other picks in the top ten, pick 6 has been very ordinary, especially if James Walker is the best they could come up with.

6 - JAMES WALKER (FREMANTLE)
Recruited from: North Ballarat Rebels (1997)
AFL.com.au was extremely tempted to go with Carlton jet Chris Yarran (2008) here, but this task isn’t about who might become the best player at this pick, so Walker gets the vote. He is the only No.6 to play more than 100 AFL matches, finishing with 151 games. Clearly the most talented are Yarran, who has played 45 often scintillating matches, and Allen Jakovich (Melbourne - 1990), who starred in his brief stint, booting 201 goals in just 47 matches, at the incredible average of 4.27 per game. Pick No.6 appears cursed, such is the slim pickings at this number, but recent selections David Myers (Essendon - 2007), Yarran, Gary Rohan (Sydney Swans - 2009) and Reece Conca (Richmond - 2010) should break the hoodoo.

If that is the case Port will still get access to an excellent player that GWS will have had to overlook.
1 GWS Patton
2 GWS Coniglio
3 GWS Tyson
4 GWS Buntine
5 GWS Greene
6 Port Wingard or Longer
7 GWS Wingard Longer Tomlinson
8 Brisbane Wingard Longer Tomlinson

Agree with you there, Sheedy will make sure it happens, That just means someone like Longer could be at the Power.

Another good article on pick 6 and how it is "cursed". Good luck Port.

To be fair Salopek ( Port ) Bradley ( Ess/Freo ) and Williams ( B'dogs ) are all at worst average and often better.

Really? I'd say they're all very rarely better than average.

When you look at who has been selected around pick 6, the difference in quality is quite large.

It will be interesting to see how accurate that phantom draft is.

Zyrus Manson appears to have a lot of x factor so if Port does get him, he'd be a Daniel Motlop replacement.

I've been enjoying the various articles about each pick. Adelaide have been doing something similar on their website which has also been an interesting read.

Rookie Draft would have to be a decent chance ... Im not sure he's up to AFL footy now or ever (no disrespect intended) but naturally if he gets a crack I hope he goes well.
