Thanks for that summary Grahaml, very comprehensive and a good read.

My apologies about saying J Gowan got reported tonight on this thread, I blame my SMS'er at the game.
Shall I name him Ian?

One of them happened in front of me on the Northern flank of the grandstand side, so I think it was hard to see from the other side exactly what happened. It was definitely Wilson that time, but Gowans went in to stand the mark and told Wilson to go down back. I'm guessing that's where the confusion arose. The other report I forget now who it was, but I don't think there was much in either.

I was interested to note you didn't seem to think North had much chance. Was this because you're missing players, Don't think much of North this season, think centrals will go well or just talking it down so you don't get too hopeful? Are Ivens and Coulter the only ones you're missing? I know we were missing 5 players who are just about walk up starts, and with good performances in the reserves and league from many players I don't think there are 5 spots in the league team!

Yeah players out and Im expecting a slower start to the season than previous years as I think we're starting to learn when to peak, not to mention that Centrals have only lost once under lights by 2points to us when we were in top form. We peaked very early last year because of the NT game.
Coulter, Ivens, White, Walker were out and we've had a few come back on a very restriced training program like Wintle, Hart, Howard and I'd expect us to have an AFL listed player in more games than not.
Dogs were bookies favs and our trial game form has been abysmal, Ive seen all the trial games. I think the Dogs won pretty well last week where we've looked terrible all year.
I made the prediction before I found out Coulter and Ivens were out too, probably our two best running backmen.
Also wouldn't suprise me if we rue getting rid of Hargs but I may be biased there.

Also, like many Centrals fans I rate Central's depth much better this year than last, I don't think a few Centrals fans thought they had the depth to go all the way last year and to make the GF was a fantastic achievement IMHO.

Sporn, Walker and Brett White will come into our best 22 along with Coulter and Ivens. This is just an answer to a question by the way not an excuse. Would not have changed the result tonight.

I have to agree with losing Hargraves. The forward line was just honest and there was no brilliance from anyone there for mine. Hargraves might not do it much these days, but could still pull off a few nice things out of nothing.

DG, he might have got a bit of ball but ran sideways most of the time, and his disposal wasn't great. He's 22 now and wants to play AFL so I expect a bit more of him than he showed tonight.

Whoops, forgot about Sporn, he'll be a bloody good player for us this year.

Be interested to hear from those at the game how Stribling did in the ressies too.

BTW, is Bamford only 32? I think the budget's had him as 32 for about 3 years now. Ben Hart's also only 180cm tall according to the budget. Maybe when he was playing back in 1991 he was.

Just on Bamford, I don't want to write him off after 1 bad game, but is he finished? He didn't look as fast as he was and when he loses that he hasn't got much left. With 5 players coming back and a few kids coming through as well is he likely to make way for someone?

Nah, don't write of Banger yet, he was fantastic last year and was probably still our quickest guy during the trials.
Weirdly enough too, despite having some great youngsters come up over the last 12 months we haven't really had a traditional wingman come through to replace him either.

I have a feeling I should recognise them. They wouldn't be Kreig, Coulter, Wakelin and Walton, would they?

One wingman in the reserves who looks the goods for Centrals at least is #57, Sean Brading. In the bit I saw he took about 6 marks and ran hard up and down the grandstand wing making heaps of meterage for us. Not that it'll help you out much, but when he's a star you heard it here first.

No idea about Stribling but yes Sporn should be very handy.

Also forgot Alan Obst will be coming through at some point. If Griffen comes back from the crows when Maric is recovered, we might have Cowan, Obst, Griffen, Aufderheide, Graham, Sibenaler and Pfitzner all competing with some guys who looked good tonight for they key position spots.

Yes Bamford is 32. He has plenty left.

Yeah, for those who don't read/get the Advertiser, all 4 are school teachers and teach at schools in the Central District area.

2 of them, I know are great teachers and the students love them.
Nice for the kids to see their teachers play good hard football.
They still talk to the kids after the game even though they are on different sides.
