FOXTEL has hip-and-shouldered Channel 7 by signing Eddie McGuire as the face of its new footy channel.
Channel 9 has agreed to share McGuire with the pay TV channel to take on Seven, which signed a $450 million AFL broadcast deal.
It will result in the Collingwood president going head to head with his newly departed coach Mick Malthouse, who will be frontman for Seven's panel of experts. Former star player Dermott Brereton is also expected to defect from Channel 9 to join Fox Footy.
The Advertiser can reveal:
McGUIRE will call at least one game a week for Fox - but none involving the Magpies.
HE will host his own prime-time weekly football show on Fox Footy, while continuing to host Millionaire Hot Seat and other major events, such as the Olympic Games, on Nine.
NEGOTIATIONS to convince Nine to share McGuire began as early as May, and involved billionaire James Packer.
McGUIRE has signed separate, lucrative contracts with the two networks.
FOXTEL'S around-the-clock Fox Footy channel will have its launch on February 17 for the opening round of the NAB Cup.
