Talk on the national game

It was his birthday, it's the off-season, he might have been drunk but c'mon, he's allowed to be human every now and then.

During off season training and in season he's 100% committed to footy, the periods surrounding are a worry, but I don't see them being a huge issue.

Sanderson has been impressive so far in the way he has spoken.

This quote is great and i hope he can produce this!

"You will see a side that plays contested ball. A side that defends first - and has great disposal efficiency. You will see a side that is organised - that is planned. You will see a side that is ruthless."

Place your bets now on how long before someone starts a 'sack Sando' thread.

In all seriousness I thought he handled himself very well yesterday. He looks like a man who's driven, confident, and comfortable with the huge job ahead of him.

Really looking forward to seeing what he can do with this squad.

On another tact - I wonder whether he has been on the phone to Gunston yet. Not to late to change the young man's mind.

You would think he would have. You could see his eyes light up talking about the amount of kids under 22 in the squad.
Would the Mark Bickley award be given to him if did come back and sign again? LOL

Yeah I like how things are looking for 2012 both on and off the field. I renewed my membership today so fingers crossed things keep looking positive and they can turn things around after a poor couple of years.

Hi Gang,

Our situations have changed and we are unable to get our members tickets this year :(
We (Mrs SD and I) are looking for someone to take them over for the 2012 season.

We both will still go to a game or two throughout the season so, if someone wants to buy the tickets and can't go a week here or there we are more than happy to purchase the tickets from whoever buys them (hope that makes sense).

Please let your friends and family know as I would hate to see them go to waste.

Cheers,
Sorry Dude

This, from the Crows site, sounds encouraging as it addresses where the Crows have been shown up in past finals:
Sanderson and the club’s coaching staff, which includes new faces Dean Bailey and Darren Milburn, have revised the pre-season training program to include more strength work and competitive drills.

Sando obviously looking for big bodied midfielders who can use the ball - Geelongesk. Kerridge and Joyce obviously hunt the footy, Grigg a skillful left foot midfielder and Ellis-Yeoman I think is a project player, who they reckon has Goodes like potential (can play similar atleast - fingers crossed).

Suprising they didnt go a tall defender.

Cant wait to see these kids hopefully develop and remember we have Luke Brown and then Crouch waiting in the wings to burst on the schene the next year.

I was hoping they would pickup Michael Talia.

Yes he is. Only Crouch is underage and has to wait 12 months. I'm very interested to see how that will go with him having 12 months in the AFL system before actually being eligible to play. Could prove very handy for the young fella.

You would think Brown would be more AFL ready than Brodie Smith was last year, and possibly still is. Although the other guys have bigger bodies I cant see them being ready to play round 1, barring Kerridge and Grigg tearing up the NAB Cup.

A healthy McKay, Porpoise, Otten and Knights will be the real excitement.

No idea what Sando is thinking but would like to see Thompson play as the 3rd tall in defence and Otten to be pushed up to a wing. Tambling to play backpocket and Stiffy to play forward.

i know this is a bit pessemistic and i would be a very very happy man if the crows did have a successful year next year but with the predicted crop of young kids tipped to be the best in years next year the one solace about not going that well is that we could pick up a talented kid plus have brad crouch good to go for 2013. just saying that it wouldnt be all doom and gloom if next year wasnt an on field success.

From now on AFC is about developing/breeding a winning culture, having a poor year is the last thing the AFC coaching staff would be wanting.

We are effectively ahead of the field as Crouch is a top 5 draft pick plus we get our normal first pick depending on where we finish. I dont see any advantage in loosing games next year!

realisticly we wont be pushing for a top 8 spot. i honestly cant see where the improvement is going to come from next year for us to challenge teams like essendon, north, melbourne and richmond. who are all probably one year ahead of us in a list development sense. we would need players like mckay, dangerfield, talia, wright, walker to all improve notably on their 2011 seasons. while im sure they will improve im not sure it will be enough to move into top 8 contention

You just answered your own question. Improvement out of them players, a coach who will play them in the correct posititions, a fit porps in the forward line, a fit Mckay off a wing. Tippet and Walker both have something to prove.
Thats why they should have made the 8 this season and should contend next season.

I too like the way he talks. Hope it goes that way because some of our fickle "supporters" will turn on him if it doesnt work out. For what its worth i think we'll make the eight this year and could possibly do some damage. The way we played against Collingwood and a few others last year proved we're not far off. Bit of tweaking, some confidence and who knows.
