If you had any idea of the amount of work we have done on the past 5 years to get flinders to where it is now with a strong men's team, a sevens minors and men's team and a women's team you might appreciate that we are doing everything in our power to hopefully bring home the Hannigan cup for the first time in 20 years. Your cheap shots don't go unnoticed....

I find it hard to believe you guys havn't trained yet.

Settle Nev, playing two trials is the biggest pre season in gaelic football SA history!
We've been training for 3-4 weeks, but there's no way in those sessions that we'd be getting as much out of it as a trial game or two.

Mate, I'm doing just as much work at Na Fianna so I know what it takes.

Just wanted to hear from anyone from Mitcham to confirm if they can play 15 a side this week? Means there is 2 less I need to give the bad news to about not getting a run

hopefully we will have enough for 15 this weekend and we will def be looking to play with the full 15 if we can! the clubs footy trip is happening this weekend so that doesnt help - look out for any footballers in trouble in Bali

we are also on the Taints pre season program of no games or training, so will take a couple of weeks for us to be at our best im sure. interesting to see if our new irish recruits turn up, but after 7 on a sunday i expect, like last year, they will be at the pub! it will be good if we can close the gap between our best and worst this season... and a regular goalie for the first time would be even better! copper has taken on coaching this year, so at least that chair is filled on game day....not sure if the club benefactors will be flying in king carey from port pirie this weekend, we can only hope! :-bd. Good luck to all

Rocked in to "the theatre of dreams" aka St Mary's Park last night and I had to park nearly behind the goals - the place was packed!! And the new bar looks the business.

Friday night results:

A very impressive NA FIANNA over Onkas 2.11 to 2.5

A new look (besides Gino in goals) ST BRENDAN'S over Irish Australians also 2.11 to 2.5. The aptly named Irish with approx 5 new Irish recruits, with about the same number watching/drinking on the sidelines. The Irish full forward looked a gun!

Any results from today Nev?

Don't think you'll get a match report from WW as he's currently in Melbourne on a footy trip with a couple of other Na Fianna regulars! Maybe those training did come in handy ;)
I think WW is slowly reducing his posts due to his new coaching position!

The Duke, be ready for the epic Matt Doecke love fest that such a question as yours will prompt from some of this forums great posters!

Western Ireland won, dont know the score, spoke to Dave flo, Said it was a scrappy game, but West by a few...

Mitcham had to forefit, Footy trip to blame? Flinders will take the points, but Chris Carey driving from Pirie to play, ...ouch, thats gotta suck....

A win without the coach also?? Did onkas have a few outs or na Fianna a few ins? Amazed by the result if the two sides Lined up with similar teams to last season?

Onkas were without Irish Danny and minors player of the state championships Jamie Conlon, plus Matt Whippedford was coaching rather than playing. However they still had a super strong lineup out on the park (including the returning Peter Tyson) but were simply outplayed by a very good and well drilled Na Fianna outfit, who were without St Nick Jolly, had Kenny in goals, and were missing a few on Payneham's footy trip.

A forfeit in round 1 is pretty average... however cant really judge as the Taints could only scrape together the bare 15 this week.

Duke YES Matt Doecke (name always to appear in bold or at least capitals) still plays the great game - he has come to Gaelic Footy quite late but he still has plans to emulate his footy feats by playing 340+ A grade games of Gaelic Footy.

I think the WI v Port score was 6.14 to 4.3....

WI were just too good, they run the ball as well as any team. Port's keeper struggled a bit early on with kick outs, and as a result the ball didnt come out of WI's half too easily.
For Port to score 4 unders was a decent effort, and probably could have had another couple if a couple first gamers didn't make a few mistakes haha.

Probably a bit early to start throwing the premiership favorites tag out there!

On Onkas - i should point out their goalkeeper looked very new and a bit suss, and they struggled to get the ball out of their own half from kick outs, and the goals they conceded were very soft indeed. They will be back for sure - tho hopefully not this week against my beloved Taints!

Jamie Conlon will be a gun - and would slot back into the Onkas team in goals at the very least.

Interesting games this week, looking forward to actually having a run, sounds like Irish are looking stronger this year...
