Arguably they handed 2 premierships to the Crows with what must have been one of their first ever trades. I think Chris Groom played less than 20 games total.

In thier defence I believe that the story goes that McLeod said he would never go to Fremantle to play.

yes, because of Gerard Neeshams attitude/conduct/lack of professionalism.
Apparently McLeod, flown over for the interview, told to get that gold earring out of his ear, was left to find his own way home- interstate.

As far as Adelaide goes the ones I can think of:

- Selling their souls for Wayne Carey & to a lesser extent Ronnie Burns (2002 I think??).
- Trading away Tony Modra.

Not too many out and out blunders in 20 years though thankfully.

What trade MP? They went number 2 and 3 in the draft in the same year.

The Crows haven't really let a lot of good ones go. Perhaps Vardy.

I also wonder whether the AFC would have been annoyed in hindsight in letting go of Modra given that Blight was gone a year or 2 later anyway.

Interesting that the Crows have let a couple of defenders go (Sanderson, Ingerson, Mattner) that actually went alright at new homes, but weren't living up to what was wanted of them in Adelaide .. Not sure what the Crows got back, but probably good trades all-round (Vardy too) I'd say.

Blight traded Mods away during the 98 off season, During the next season Blight quit the club.

Yea Hudson maybe. Mattner & Sanderson no - just a simple case of players flourishing with a change of scenery.

Most of Adelaide's blunders have happened at the draft table, not at the trade table.

Wellman is another that went on to serve Essendon well, including playing every game of their 2000 premiersip side.

Wellman was part of the Jarman trade though wasn't he? Hardly a disaster there, rather a win win for both clubs. You have to consider the incoming as well as the outgoing to truly assess a successful trade.

yeah, wasnt really saying it was a disaster, more another backman that was traded away - if it was the case I think you would be pretty happy with the swap... sorry should have concentrated on the trade disasters.

We got draft picks 12 and 28 in the same trade period as we used pick 13 to get Scott Thompson.

So in a roundabout way you could say we got Thompson and pick 28 for Stenglein.

On Wellman - yes, he was part of the massive 4 way trade deal that got Jarman to the Crows. We also lost Rouvray to the Swans in the same deal.
In between signatures .....

And the pick given away to Melbourne as part of the 3 way deal was used for Melbourne to pick up Matthew Bate.
