Adelaide Crows 2012

Talk on the national game

Good to read in on the tiser website that the new coach is pulling out all stops to keep Gunston:

Sanderson has refused to concede Gunston is lost to any of his five Victorian suitors, in particular Hawthorn, North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs.

"He is not lost until it happens," Sanderson said of Gunston, 20, who has played 14 AFL games with the Crows in the past two years. "It is a difficult one because he wants to come home. Jack Gunston is an integral part of our future at Adelaide. I rate the kid. He is awesome, an exceptional young talent and I would love him to stay in a Crows jumper."

And played 4 great years at the Bulldogs, something the crows didnt think he could do. Esp as they have been crying out for a decent ruckman in recent years.

Well, it was better than anything Griffen, Maric, Jacobs, Sellar and Moran put together.

Cant bundle Jacobs into that, his output has been well above Huddos last year and a half for sure.

I agree. Hudson would've made a lot of difference in the last few years. Quality ruckmen don't grow on trees.

in my opinion the crows will finish between 9th to 12th. to this will all depend on what game plan and coaching style sanderson brings to the club.

i cant see them going ahead too far next year, they will have mostly the same backs, midfielders and fowards, maybe with a more attacking game plan they could sneak into the eight but they will only be making u the numbers!

Pretty good assessment BOH. With some luck with injuries (eg - Porps playing more than one game, Vince actually having a preseason etc) and some above average development from the youngsters we may sneak into the 8. More likely we will finish in the 9th - 12th area of the ladder though IMO.

Next season will be the first season in many years that I will be going into with very low expectations.

What you need to ask is "who will the crows go past next year?.
well we know they will be better than say the bottom four teams, which are probably going to be the gc, gws, port and probably brisbane. So far that would put them 14th. now will they be better than melbourne, richmond, bulldogs, north and freo. Hard to tell really. but i would expect them to be in the mix from 8th - 14th.
Read my reply. It is directed at you because you have double standards

good point stan i think they will go past melbourne, bulldogs and richmond. which on current ladder standing would get them to around 10-11 and like i said in a eariier post with a more attacking game plan they could get to 8 but i think that would be unlikely! of coarse this is just my opinion

Gee guys I think Adelaide people have an over inflated sense of their list. Cant see them finishing any higher and maybe even dropping a spot if Brisbane get their act together or the GC kids come on. Seriously cant see Crows playing finals footy in the next 3 years.

That's worst case scenario I'd think Jimbo. Any supporter worth there weight is going to hold out hope for something a tad better than that!

In all seriousness, clubs that have an extended run of poor results like you're suggesting usually have more deep seeded issues than just list management problems. I have confidence that Adelaide has the stability and resources to avoid such a long run in the cellar.

One team has rose from the ranks of 12-16th in the last few years (west coast this year, freo 2010 and so on) and at this stage of season 2012 there is no reason for fans of any clubs to be overly pessimistic. I do find it difficult to see who the crows can pass next season but injuries, form, the draw are still to come and will have a massive impact on what each club can realistically expect to achieve.

Ginger, stability and resources are ok but they've had that for the past 4-5 years, what they lack is T-A-L-E-N-T !

There's no doubt that we need to find some real guns out of our current kids because I agree we are short on top tier, elite talent. I think Scotty Thompson would be the only player in contention for the top 50 current day players. In the past we would have had 3-5 on that list.

This the same Jacobs that didnt play the first 4 weeks for the Crows?

John Reid on Hudson in 2007 -

"We're still in negotiations with Ben's management, they are after three years and we're offering two, but we're still negotiating and we haven't given up," Reid said today.

"The Bulldogs have shown an interest, we're aware of that and discussions will continue.

"We've offered him two years, we don't want to lose him, but he'll start next season at 29-year-old and then the following season at 30, so three years is a bit of a stretch."

He played 4 JR!!!!

88 games over 4 years for the Bullies, fair to say Crows got that massively wrong.
