I've been struggling to put this into perspective. For us blokes who play/did play country footy on a saturday for the love of a club, if we were offered a bit of coin to play for an opposition club, then I could cop the traitor tag.
However, Phil Davis is a football player- that is his profession.
It would be like a rival retailer in my town offering me more money to go and do the same work for them, for more money.
It's going to benefit me financially, and help me set up for my future.

Just because he (Davis) is a football player, is it any different?

Great post parky. As gingernuts noted, as a fan you have a right to resent a players defection to another club, as loyalty to any fan is the bottom line. Unfortunately, with andy d turning the game into the business that it is today, we are all going to see our favourite players (or any player for that matter) defect to other clubs for more coin or opportunity. To call davis, scully, ablett etc a traitor is unjust, as i doubt it that anyone wouldnt consider the money side of things if they were faced with a similar situation.

Maric has had a 2 year contract put in front of him but has chosen to go elsewhere.

Tell me Crows fans, are you comfortable going into 2012 with Jacobs, McKernan and Tippett as your rucks? I would have thought a back up like Maric would be perfect and allow the other 2 to play where they are more suited. What happens if Jacobs goes down?

I am uncomfortable with the lack of back up in ruck should Maric go. I can understand why he wants to try elsewhere though, who want's to be on an AFL list 'just in case' really?

James Sellar woud love to be on our list just in case. Would prefer to have Maric for another 12 months to see where Craig is at but thats how it goes sometimes. There is nothing saying we wont pick up another ruckmen in the trade period anyway, or a sanfl seasoned ruckmen as rookie insursance. A guy by the name of Ben Hudson proved a cheap handy pickup.

Read today that Armstrong has walked out and will likely end up at Sydney. Hadn't read that on here previously.

How could they leave so many players out of contract after their season finished a month ago?

Davis, Maric, Gunston & now Armstrong dont want to be part of the club next year. These arent players in their late 20's looking for more opportunity, these are players you can base a premiership team around.

Im pretty confident this wouldnt have happened under John Reid, he would have had a contract under their eyes at the beginning of the year, and more importantly he would have been asking for an answer months ago.

IN a week where there should be excitement around the club with a new young coach coming in (FWIW I think is a good call) there are still players walking out. All in a year where the likely compensation is draft picks in a weak compromised draft.

2011/12 is the worst time to lose players and how Adelaide have let this happen is only a guess, but something stinks.

It's mob just the crows who have alot of players out of contract. The most most in the history of the AFL. Clubs have an average of 10 still incontracted. players are holding out to the CBA is signed. Some players like Bernie Vince signed there contract as a percentage of the salary cup and his pay will go up after the cba is signed

Yes, of course we'd prefer he stays here and plays the most of the 2012 season in the SANFL 'just in case' Jacobs goes down. Not sure I would want that though if I was Maric and Richmond or some other club was offering me 22 AFL games. As I said before, at 26 next year how long does he wait 'just in case'.

I dont know the exact numbers. But Matty Campbell is out of contract and is weighing up his options. Ben cunnington Is yet to sign but is just holding out for more money.
Also uncontracted are
Bastinac, Aaron black, Robbie tarrant, Shaun atley, Liam Anthony and Gavin urquhart.

Gunston & Davis are definitely ones that got away (Maric & Armstrong not so much) but if you look at the bigger picture I think the list managers have worked their butts off to make sure KPP's and key midfielders have stayed.

Yet all of the above players played SANFL footy at some stage in 2011, and Porps played a few in 2010.

Amazing how it turns, only a month ago we were talking about Port not being able to sign their kids, yet they have and the Crows are losing them.

And they talk about club "culture"....who has the better at the moment?

One is a club greatful to re-sign the group who almost clinched the spoon.

The other is a club with seemingly little movement available to them for various reasons and the players are getting twitchy over it.

Can you give us a third choice booney?

Dunno? How about Geelong. Or Collingwood. Or Hawthorn.

Once again debate turns to which adelaide team is slightly less shit while neutral bystanders piss themselves laughing.

Exactly.

Points scored against Port Adelaide give me no satifaction these days, a completely hollow debate. I'm saving my ammunition for the day I've actually go something to defend (and attack for that matter).

And yes North have some players to sign, but not key regular players who have walked out on the club. Bastinac and Anothony are the only ones Id be worried about.

Not sure where you got your info from, Shaun Atley was only drafted last year so is on a mandatory 2 year deal, expiring 2012.

Armstrong, Gunston & Maric are far from key regular players. Davis maybe, but he is even yet to fully establish himself due to continual injury. Keep drawing those long bows Dutchy.

Stubborn? Age and Injury played a massive part in the clubs decision, not to mention the excess $ and 3 year deal he demanded! Thanks for coming Huddo
