Dunno, he applied for the Cats main gig when Bomber left but didn't get it, there was rumours he might have been Buckley's right hand man at Collingwood next year.
He started as our assistant in 2007 so we've done bloody well while he's been there.

Missed out on Port last year, probably his biggest break in footy ;)

It might be a pre-requisite for future coaching jobs in the AFL.

So, did Port reject you?
Yes.

You're through to the next stage.

Yeah had a feeling he had been thru a few clubs applications

so -

Port
Bullies
Geelong
now Adelaide

Seems you have to have to have been an Assistant at a successful club to get a gig these days, except Primus!

From the Herald Scum
Sanderson, 37, was in the last three candidates for the Western Bulldogs position, won by another former Geelong assistant Brendan McCartney

Nathan Buckley will have to keep looking for another Assistant Coach, Sanderson was supposed to have been the subject of a strong offer to get him away from Geelong and over to Collingwood for 2012.

Think its a good decison by the club, Burns could have been a good candidate also, Sanderson has good credentials and has worn the jumper of the club and is across all the various issues of playing the list in the SANFL and so on, so likely its a good choice by the club. Hope people stay off his back and let him do what needs to be done at the club and support him as has been the case with Ron Fuller at South.

Huge fan of Bickley but I concede that Sanderson now should be given the right to appoint his own Assistant Coaching staff. He may well chose to retain some or all, but he should also be able to clear the decks as well if that is his wish.

Next season 12 of the 18 senior coaches will be in the 1st or 2nd year in the current role

Of those 12, only Sheedy and Lyon have coached before. That may end up as 3 depending on who St Kilda get.

So at least half of the 18 clubs will have first time senior coaches in the first or second seasons. It's quite a generational change going on.

Perhaps, but at least we didn't go the easy option and just employ the caretaker coach to save a few bucks. ;)

In all seriousness, after being passed over so many times he'll have a point to prove, and I'm very happy for him to prove that point at the helm of the Adelaide Football Club. Very happy with this appointment.

Well he wasn't good enough for Geelong so he's clearly good enough for the Cows. ;) I just want to thank your mob for not giving the Port job to Scotty.

No dagger through my heart there mate, I know exactly why Primus got the job and I have no issue with it as we didn't have the cash to throw around like we might have wanted to.

Interesting though that Neeld, McCartney and Sanderson who, having been mentioned in just about every senior vacancy in recent times all get a gig within a week of each other.

My question is, what did they all do differently this time around through the interview process, or, has the thinking of club officials changed to accept "rookie" coaches as a viable alternative?

Meh. Give a monkey Geelongs squad and they'd play finals. Scotts test comes in 2013 and beyond.

Regarding Burns, it was mentioned on Footy Classified and One Week @ a Time last night that Burns felt that he wasn't quite ready for a head coach role, he has also told St Kilda that he won't be available for the job.

yes its pretty interesting with all these rookie coaches how do you choose which one. bottom line all are a high risk as they are untried and you dont know who is going to be successful until a few years into their contract. its a game of russian roulette.

That's not what people were saying in January. According to some we weren't even supposed to make the eight this year. I believe 5-8 was the pre-season consensus.
