Uneducated Collingwood hysteria rules SA Footy again

Whats Uneducated about wanting an even draw? Your the uneducated one, thinking that it's still the VFL and not the AFL.

And if we had an even draw and everyone played each other twice Collingwood would finish 10 games clear on top.

Well how about this then... All Victorian teams should be made to fly and spend a day interstate every 2 weeks... I would be happy with that... They could head to the airport after their game Fly somewhere, spend the night in a Hotel, do the recovery in the morning and then fly back to Melbourne later that night.

Graham Cornes is to blame for this. He used the travel factor as an excuse for his ordinbary coaching record. 4 years later, in 1998, the Crows travelled to Perth in the final minor round, then to Melbourne, Sydney, Melbourne, and then back to Melbourne to win the flag. They travelled interstate 5 weeks in a row. If travel is such an overwhelming disadvantage, then it should have been impossible.

Collingwood have a similar draw every year, how come they haven't won since 1990? They won last year because they were the best team in the competition. Travel had nothing to do with it.

One thing you rarely hear mentioned is, whilst it is true the Crows travel 10 times out of 22 games, they also get to play 10 matches in Adelaide against teams who have travelled FROM interstate. Melbourne teams, apart from Geelong, don't enjoy that type of home ground advantage.

Travel is a misconception. If a team is good enough, they'll win on the beach.

Collingwood have had a resonable draw for years even when they struggling.Dont know if there will be an ideal draw any time to suit everyone,can certainly understand the AFL situation to make as much money as possible when setting fixture.Brad Sewell from Hawthorn was on the couch on monday and said playing in WA last weekend and travelling back was exhausting and he was still recovering and can appreciate what the WA teams have to go through.

Not to mention the gate takings, stadium deals and tv rights the AFL would lose with these games not being at the G......Andy D cant have that.

I got no problems with Collingwood getting the run they get, but are gate takings really all that important these days?
The TV deals are that much larger I would have thought the gate takings would start to become almost irrelivant.

And if Collingwood was playing interstate more, then wouldn't there be more people (the collingwood fans) watching it on TV rather than being at the G, therefore increasing the TV deals? - Drawing a long bow I know.

The travel factor would hurt the WA teams more than any I would have thought, it is a 90 minute flight from Adelaide to Melbourne so really cant say that is all that hard. If Collingwood had to travel more it wouldnt matter, I would think that Eddie would be able to borrow Air Force One and they could travel in style

Honestly the draw is great for Collingwood but not a great deal of difference for the other VIC teams, lets face it there are 10 of them so the likelyhood they wont travel much is high. With the modern game and the way the teams now prepare you would say that the travel being the reason for form would be minimal.

Pretty sure Dutchy places a lot of emphasis on whether or not a team travelled the week before when he punts.

They can't even square it up a bit by having them play teams that haven't travelled the week before. Everything is pointed in their favour. People arguing they would win anyway is true, this year, but how well would they have finished say three years ago etc. Maybe the Crows wouldn't have had to even played Collingwood the year they beat us after the siren, it makes me wonder....

the simple reason collingwood have such a good draw every year is because all the clubs want to play collingwood at the MCG. If you want collingwood to play more games interstate and at Ethiad tell the clubs to stop asking to play collingwood at the G but this won't happen because they request it for more money and free to air coverage.

Also, Collingwood got given the byes at the perfect times during the season...and didnt leave Victoria for the first 7 rounds and the last 7 rounds! That is the main issue for me.

i'd also call count playing in Perth in the second last game of the season as "leaving victoria" within the last 7 rounds.

I reckon Geelong's bye placement is better than Collingwood's. The bye is beautiful for our club as we had the oldest playing list this season. Not only are we rotating our players we can also give everyone a break only a couple of weeks out from the finals. That's a big advantage over teams like West Coast, Hawthorn and Carlton as they haven't had the luxury of rotating their playing list.

It's not as much of an advantage over Collingwood though as they have had the ability to not only rotate their squad but also to freshen up some blokes in Arizona as well.

Couldn’t be bothered looking at all Vic clubs so I just quickly looked at 4. Two self proclaimed “power-houses” and two smaller clubs.

Number of Interstate games from 2009 onwards:

St Kilda 18 (6 each year)
North Melb 17 (plus 3 visits to Kardinia Park)
Essendon 13 (just 3 trips in 2010)
Collingwood 12 (4 each year)

Anybody who says the Pies don’t have an advantage based on just that stat alone is kidding themselves. Add it a few of the other factors that were mentioned in the opening post and the advantage is even more significant.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but the main issue with your draw there is that Collingwood play 13 games in Melbourne, from my understanding each club has to have 11/12 home games where their members have the rights to seats, if Collingwood are playing 13 games only in Melb then the other Vic based clubs won't get their home games either

I'll just keep watching, enjoying my team playing well, enjoying my club in a great position, and like I mentioned earlier am more then happy to distribute tissues for those of you that cant handle it
