Was obviously a great coach and people manager - although he also did have a good side at his disposal in the 80's at Hawthorn.

People tend to look at his Hawks record but he was the bloke who coached the Saints to their one flag too.....

Thats sad news, RIP Allan. The Hawthorn side that he coached in the 80's was surely one of the greatest teams of all time.

Very sad to hear. Some of the accounts of players ringing him to say goodbye bring a lump to the throat.

One of my favorite moments of him, is the World Of Sport interview with him and Tom Hafey the day after the Matthews/Bruns incident. It's on YouTube - the tension was palpable.

The tension was between Jeans and the interviewer, which was Peter McKenna.

Dermott Brereton's words in the interview on MTR on at the bottom of the link above are well worth listening to. A reminder that some (probably most) coaches can have an enormous impact on the lives of their players. Jeans obviously touched a lot of people. RIP.

Love these words that came from the great man after surfing You-tube for anything about him last night--
"In every game there's going to be a crossroads, and when you come to that cross-roads you either step up, or you step out. It's all up to you"

Read the interview by David Wheadon of Alan Jeans in Tactics in Modern football (c) 1990. A great book, of the coaches interviewed, Hafey, Newman, Sheedy, Blight, Joyce and Parkin etc. Jeans makes the most sense and broke the game down into its simplest form.

A damn good coach
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
