NATHAN THOMPSON’S season is over

As a long time Kangaroos fan it's sad to see us at the bottom of the ladder but as the competition is now some teams will not be able to stay in the top eight. The Roos have for some years finished around 6th to 12th which gets you nowhere in this league in regards to good draft pick. In previous years we have recruited the wrong players e.g. Jonathon Hay, Jade Rawlings,etc. to try and keep in touch with the top eight. Some times as in life it needs to get worse before it gets better, so finishing in the bottom 2 or 3 as have Carlton or a ST. Kilda you rebuild a good side for the next 5 to 10 years. I believe the new crop of young players coming through plus the fact we will probably finish bottom 2 will create a strong team for the future.

Dutchy, can't all follow the pack and be a Crow supporter - the 90's were great years too bad it had to come to an end
I reckon the day Carey got caught out was the end of the Roos as we knew them.
Still the Shin Bone spirit will live on as long as guys like Archer/Harvey/Grant/Simpson are around.

Sorry guys ... you have lost me with the 'franchise' concept. Both in how you are defining a franchise and why it matters if your club is one. I think this started with the assertion that playing with 2 home bases turns a 'club' in to a 'franchise' (1st time you lost me), then there was the implication that being a franchise is a terrible thing (lost me a second time) and then we had the assertion that non-Victorian teams are 'franchises' and Victorian teams are 'clubs' (what the .... ? - lost me again).

A franchised business is one where a business owner sells licenses to sell identical products in a particular location - ie, McDonalds, Bakers Delight, Subway, etc. That's not how AFL teams operate and, if it was, they would ALL be franchises. And, if they are, so what .....?

A club is a place. You go "down to the club". You have a drink there. You watch training. You head back there after games to watch awards presentations. It is home. If that home is split in two, the notion of club loses currency.

I believe the NBA has instances of team owners who just closed down in one city and opened in another with the same nickname - that's a franchise.

Re your last paragraph - the AFL actually is the business owner who does sell licences. The SANFL owns two.

I am just being pedantic about the incorrect use of the word 'franchise', even though I understand what you are trying to say. Your local Jim is a franchise .... I bet he enjoys a beer and is a nice bloke if you got to know him
