I wont be surprised if the Crows drop a few games then pick up somewhat to recover this season.

Trade week last year was interesting, I dont think that the Crows did as well as some of the other clubs and probably performed in the bottom four in that regard and I think it is going to cause problems being as the competition is as tight as it is.

The first quarter says it all for the Crows, the old monkey on the back of kicking wide from the
coaching days of Gary Ayres is still with the Crows. When the Crows are pressured that is usually the result. I dont know what the club can do to deal with this, yet if it is repeated this year, they will struggle to be taken seriously as contenders for the premiership.

MW

I am in Adelaide at the moment, thought I would go and take a look.

My thoughts

My initial concerns is more specific to the crows preperations than the result of the game, my worry is the crows have not had an opportunity to settle the side down for round 1.

The forward structure is the biggest headache, Perrie loooked out of sorts, but than again Tarrant did not look too good last week either, I am sure Perrie will play with the Roosters this week and has 15 days to get right for rnd 1. Bode has had an ordinary few trial matches, I read in some reports today he was named in the best 3, this is so far off the mark, he needs to recapture confidence in a hurry.

I also feel Craig has missed an opportunity in not trialling Tippett out of a forward pocket, we just lack a big body up forward

On the positives, Bock looks the real deal as a leading forward, he times his leads and leads fast and hard, Welsh will come back in to the side, my mail is Roo will be right for round 1, CHF is the gap so plenty of work is needed by Perrie in the next 15 days to be right for round 1.

The other concernis CHB, we need Kenny back in the side to give us that big body, Stevens does not have the body to go with Pav, Lucas or Brown.

On the positives, Rielly played extremly well again last night and has been in the best three all pre-season, while Knights, Van Berlo and Douglas have had there moments, in specific to Douglas, this kid is CLASS, make no mistake. Douglas needs to be in the side for round 1 and fast tracked, in regards to knights he inds plenty of the footy but needs to keep working on his delivery.

In closing, the game was a typical trial, not much physical pressure, especially from the crows, selection for round 1, Welsh will definitely come in, my mail is Roo is a bit better than a 60 / 40 chance, Perrie needs to do plenty of work in the next two weeks to improve his readiness.

Round 1 we should be ok, after that it gets tougher with the WB, Syd, Freo and PA

Yeh, I'd run Hudson, Tippet, and Griffen, and have one at the goalfront, one in ruck and one resting in rotation. Then I'd play Roo or Burton [or both] out of a pocket, and Welsh on a HFF as an experiment - I don't think he is the answer at FF or the pocket when the midfield is not on top and delivering well. I agree McGregor is needed for CHB but Stevens can swap with Rutten for the big CHF until then.

I think Bock is the best available choice for CHF, and unless Perrie can turn into a CHB I think he has had his run.

I'd like to see Knights and Douglas on the wings until they develop more for graduation to the midfield.

It is the petering out in the last quarters that worries me....

It's so hard to draw conclusions from the pre-season as you don't know which team is trialling what players and what new tactics. I don't like that we have lost most of the games and am concerned about Ricciuto's injury but still positive for the season. I'd feel more comfortable if Hentschell was fit but he isn't so other guys must step up. I think we will start to see some of the younger guys make real steps to start filling the shoes of the likes of Goodwin, McLeod, Ricciuto and Burton.

Freo are a real threat for the flag this year if Chris Connolly can keep them disciplined and focussed.
