Farewell Game for Chad Cornes

Postby Jim05 » Wed Jun 22, 2011 7:39 am

Heard that Chad has retired and Port are looking at giving him a farewell game against Collingwood. Havnt seen any media about it but does anyone know whether he has only finished at Port or at AFL level completely. Would he go to another AFL club or is that it?
Also is he going to play SANFL next year?

Would be pretty surprised if he went to another club...he's too old and prob happy to play for the gays anyway. Absolute champion who was let down by his body at the end of his career and probably a victim of his own versatility.

Made the All Australian side as a CHB but IMO he was best suited to a key marking forward position as on his day was a great pack mark if somewhat a random kick at goal(my mates and i stand behind the northern goals and often debate who you would least like to have a set shot at goal from 20m straight in front between tredders and chad). The role he played as a big bodied midfielder saved our arses when we were full of skinny outside runners.

Hope he goes out with a win, with a love of the club and with his reputation intact. And Hope his old man doesnt piss in his ear too much.

wouldnt surprise me if he and Kane both went to GWS for a year or 2 obviously have a pretty good connection with Chocco and GWS will be just about happy with any one in there first year especially

I reckon you might be on to something there piccachu - GWS need experienced players and the Chocco connection is a good one. I reckon Sheedy will like it too.

Either way Chad deserves a farewell game he has been a great player for the Power and certainly played his part in their premiership in 2004.

Personally i would be surprised if another AFL club took him,i think he has been unlucky to play more games for Power this year but understandable when looking beyond and giving younger players a game.Remember earlier in season when 5AA interviewed Mark Harvey and asked him question was he surprised about Chad not playing against Freo,Mark said he was in same position last year with Paul Haselby and i remember a couple of years ago with Max Hudgton at the Saints.I am sure a farewell game will happen towards end of season.

Be a huge mistake if GWS took either Cornes.

Not so much a mistake, but if GWS are looking down that path, then it's not the right mix they need at the club. I'd be interested to see how Gold Coast fans view the Josh Fraser signing, for one.
