So I guess what you're saying is that when Woodville and West Torrens merged, all supporters should have just left, and either supported another club or none at all?
Sometimes things are out of your control - and you have to take the good with the bad.
I have had NOTHING to do with the heritage of the West Torrens Football Club or the Woodville Football Club over the history of them both, just as YOU have had NOTHING to do with the heritage of the North Adelaide Football Club over it's historical years.
But apparently because you happen to be an NAFC supporter, and I happen to be a Woodville-West Torrens supporter, you're better than me.
At least, that's how you're coming across...
Not at all Dissident. And that not what I was saying either (although now you mention itOnly joking)
Sure, the history WWT does not compare to the history of NAFC, and I was a supporter of NAFC when they won the C of A so why shouldn't I be proud of that.
I don't disagree totally with you when you say that I have nothig to do with the history of the club, but on that basis there are very few who can claim they have, (ex greats, financiers and Wedgie to name a few) As a paid up member of NAFC in a small way I and all fans who contribute financially to their club become part of the history, as without fans the clubs wouldn't exist in the first place, but read the post that actually started this thread mate.I didn't actually make the distinction between the Peckers and WT, but there is one thing for sure, if North ever amalgamated with Port,(Heaven forbid) there is no way I could stand there and chant Port, Port and I don't think there will be many other NAFC fans who could. IMHO
Point is John, we don't support our clubs because of success alone. If we did, damn, we'd all be Port Magpies supporters. Yes we all support and "affect" the history and substance of our clubs by attending, supporting and paying - but if your club takes a turn in a direction you can't stop, you can't juts give up. In fact, I would say my love and passion for my club is undeniable, that I can follow them through that time in their lifespan into a new era.
Also - think of it from different ages points of view. I was 13 when the clubs merged (don't worry, I hated the idea, I didn't want the changE). I was there with my Dad and brother at Adelaide Oval (I have a photo in front of the scoreboard!) and now I'm 29. I've spent more of my life with Woodville-West Torrens, than I did with West Torrens. And my daughter who was born on Monday will attend WWT games with me (damn her, she WILL) and not even KNOW of what happened in the early nineties as a memory, but rather as history.
No, you probably wouldn't sit there and chant Port Port Port. But you know what? Neither would I. It's a tough one to make an example of, with both WT and Woodville lingering with poor form for years, low support bases, being a stones throw from each other ... If, in 1987 you asked people who could realistically merge, many would say those two clubs. Port, North et al ... it wouldn't happen. It's a simple fact.
I couldn't care less of the resentment for the two clubs merging to be quite honest. Water off a ducks back now, and I've heard it all. Who really gives a toss.
Sixteen years now. SIXTEEN years. Someone could be born one day after the merger, and be driving on the roads alone right now. A lot of time has passed so just give us supporters a break. We love our club for what it is; both the history we had previously and the history we've made together.
As for the jumpers, I LOVE it. I love the home one... the away one is a bit of a mish-mash BUT until I see it in full flight I guess it's hard to say.
