5AA drops the Power game in favor of the Crows

Postby Sojourner » Tue Mar 13, 2007 9:29 pm

It was advertised that 5AA would be broadcasting the Power game from NSW this Friday, it was stated that last week they did not do the Power game because it was on at Football Park and Power fans could go and see it wheras Crows fans could not.

Fast Forward to this week, the Power are away and the Crows are at home playing Fremantle, and 5AA have announced that a "Commercial Decision" has been made and that they are going with the Crows game instead, so there is no radio broadcast of the Power.

Naturally several Power fans phoned 5AA this arvo to complain and some threatened to switch to MMM, yet KG then asked what Port games MMM have had this year, the answer being none.

I dont barrack for Port and dont very often watch their games, yet it does seem to me that maybe this is a little in the ball park of the Free to Air sports rights on TV, when Channel 9 didnt want to show the Ashes, it got to be shown on SBS free to air. I know that 5AA pay mega dollars for the right to broadcast, yet in this situation because they dont want to, Port fans are clearly going to be disadvantaged, so it would seem fair that their should be capacity for RPH or Life to pick up the broadcast, even if it is a live feed from another station?

It is a practice match who gives a flying fork about a practice match that dosen't even count for sheep stations???

obviously Port fans do

but it is a bit rude of 5AA to double back on its word for commercial reasons ie too lazy to organise resources to broadcast from NSW

Be fair to them - March is the only month they are guaranteed a win... so they have to jump on while they can.. give it a few weeks, when they start losing and then the fans will be asking for the other game to be put on when the power are playing
Port Power has 16 years history at Football Park...

The Port Magpies have 40 years history and the two shall never be confused or combined

port supporters dont care about the fact that they wont be able to listen to their game, its because its being replaced by the crows game that hurts. Maybe next time rucci should keep his opinions to himself
But it was more than a victory for Greece. It was a stirring example to free people throughout the world of what a few brave men can accomplish once they refuse to submit to tyranny.

Brisbane play the last 3 weeks of the NAB cup on the road.

Adelaide play in Alice Springs and Perth the last two? WTF?

Big deal. The Power can't even fill its own stadium for a final.

By "final of note", do you mean Grand Final?

The fact that this is a trial match has nothing to do with our arguement. Our arguement is that 5AA had promised to broadcast the Power Sydney game this week, after they decided not to broadcast our game last week against St. Kilda, coz we were at AAMI, and we could go to the game, while the Crows were in Alice Springs, but now they decide to broadcast the Crows Freo game, despite the fact we are in Sydney, and the Crows game is at AAMI and Crows supporters can actually go the game.

It may only be a trial match, but we still wanna know how our team is going.

Oh scaffidi, March is the only time Port can win is it? Come see me in September when Port is playing finals footy while your beloved Crows are already on holidays.

I would imagine 5AA have taken a majority rules policy, and would be counting on a greater audience of listeners by covering the Crows ... I can understand the sentiment from Power supporters however, as I don't think it's very fair to them, and they would/should naturally be unhappy about this decision, however business is business as they say.

Should the Power ever become the more popular of the two teams in this state, you watch the backflip AA would make ... Until then, as tough as it is, I think the only way to PERHAPS force change and receive fair treatment would be for Power supporters to blanket boycott the station altogether.

At the end of the day, the commercial sponsors will pay more for a 20 sec add during a Crows game than they will for a Power game. Suck it up Port fans as for the first time in your precious history you are second best!
