R12 v West Coast

Talk on the national game

R12 v West Coast

Postby Gingernuts » Tue Jun 07, 2011 9:21 pm

Well, will it get even worse this weekend, or will Adelaide manage to begin the long climb back from the abyss?

I will be heading to the game with absolutely no expectations of victory. It's just safer that way.

Team selections??

McKernan has to come back in for Moran doesn't he? I can see Moran getting another game though. It's painfully obvious that the kid can play, get him back in ASAP. I don't care about form personally, I just want to see him increase that games tally and keep building his experience.

Otten displayed some reasonable form for South, but I think he probably needs a week or two more TBH.

Speaking of South, I reckon Talia could find himself at CHB for Adelaide in the next few weeks if he can string a few together.

Please give us something to cheer about Saturday fellas, for the love of God!!

The only thing going for us is that the Eagles are down just a touch.
They still have plenty going for them though to notch up a rare win at West Lakes.

Yep, surely Smack did enough to earn a recall.
Otten's return has obviously been disappointing, we really needed displaying some of that early form he had.

I see Mackay is still about 2 weeks away.
Callinan should play for Centrals this week, give him a few games there and then upgrade him for the rest of the season.

Yea, I reckon Reilly has been going alright this year. Far from the worst of the bunch.

I've given up calling for Henderson to be dropped.

My team for this week would be...

B: Johncock, Rutten, L. Thompson.
HB: van Berlo, Talia, Jaensch
C: Petrenko, S. Thompson, B. Reilly
HF: Knights, McKernan, Douglas
F: Gunston, Tippett, Sloane
R: Jacobs, Dangerfield, Vince
I/c (from): A. Riley, Wright, Tambling

Sub: Smith

Ins:

McKernan, very good early, faded a bit but found some form in the SANFL, plus you can't say he every lacks for effort.

Talia can't be any worse than Sellar so I thinks it's time to give him a go.

Tambling's form hasn't been great since the St Kilda game but he was good early so I would give him another go.

Riley, Midfield has been poor lately so time to give someone else a chance.

Smith had a week off and should start as the sub.

OUTS:

Moran, Sellar, Henderson, Doughty & Symes

I don't think Doughty should be dropped either D14.

Again, not a superstar, but a gritty player who actually has some experience. He has to stay IMO.

When it comes to the crunch, basically the problem with Adelaide is too big to fix with changes to the starting 22. The change and improvement needs to come from the players there now.

I did have Doughty as the sub originally but then changed it to Smith. My problem with Doughty is that you don't seem to notice him much when watching the games. As a senior player with experience he really needs to stand up more and help the young guys out.

A fair point mate, can't help but agree with you on that one.

Mind you sometimes with players like that though, you notice them when they're not there, and that's where the danger lies in pulling the trigger on them.

Doughty is one of the few that I do notice every week. I thought Smith was injured anyway?

Really struggle with Mckernan being dropped to get some form, played 'ok' for South and back in. I wouldn't have dropped him in the first place!!!

Thank god Hederson got the ass. In saying that, Eagles by 24+.

Tough game. Some better signs but still a poor effort all in all.

Some positives:

- Otten looked good early, but still seems to lack pace. Did he have much before he did his knee? I can't remember.
- Sloane, gets better with every game. Imagine what he's gonna be like once he's got 100+ games under the belt.
- Good fight back after half time, just couldn't sustain it.
- Petrenko looked good today. Yea he got caught a couple of times, but at least he was trying to create something. Worth persisting with IMO.
- Vince had some good touches. Still no where near his best of two years ago though, where has that gone???

Negatives:

- Injuries. FFS. Why is it when things are bad, they just keep getting worse? Tippett now, and Dangerfield didn't look too healthy despite playing out the game. Just can't take a trick.
- Midfield is ordinary, just goes missing for long periods. This is where our main problem is at the moment, pure and simple.

It must be only a few games away now before some of the young and untried players get a few games. Persisting with players like Symes has always caused me some grief. At SANFL level he is a very good / solid player, but I don't think he has the mettle to do the business at AFL level.
James Sellar - man o man what a disappointment he is. WHEN will he be delisted?
As for Brad Moran, if he put as much effort in on the field as he appears to with the colour tips in his hair he would be a better player.

Man, James Sellar should be charged with fraud...he is a deadset spud, not only gives no effort, but has zero skill and the worst decision-making skills i have seen. Im no Symes fan either, but at least he appears to have give 100%. I know Maric is on the outer, but why would we play blokes like Moran, Sellar, etc when a guy like Maric would bleed for the jumper. Im not saying for one minute Maric is the answer to any problems, but at least you know what you get with him. McKernan is worth a try in defence at some stage too i reckon.

Sloane continues to impress, he has great balance and does not go to ground easily. Petrenko was good yesterday too, i think he's better suited as a halfback/midfielder rather than a forward. Jaensch was ok again.
