When girls used to make those folded paper structures, with numbers on each side, that they would slide their fingers into the base of, ask people to nominate a number and they would then fold it inwards and outwards that number of times, to bring up another number. Repeat same, and would then unfold a flap to read your fate

(I hope people know what I mean with this)..

- Playing "Station" at school (again, reckon some will remember this one)

- When it was okay to be the last kid picked for sports and parents didn't kick up a fuss about it.

Wayne Anthoney? He came to our school once to talk about his work with indigenous Australia, was very interesting for all of us who had grown up with him as Humbolt.

I remember his opening words well - "Okay, lets get this bit out of the way, if you want to ask questions about what its like to work with a six foot orange cat, do so now".

Being at Mount Gambier for a few days made me realise just how major the decline of the local deli has been in Adelaide. I always marvel at how many delis are around the Mount, and all seem to be thriving. They are just everywhere down there.

Badnocks near the blue lake always seems to be one of the busier ones. Very nice ice cream
Another thing the mount has no shortage of is Fish,n,chip shops.

From my very early days on Kangaroo Island, when I first started going there: they used to sell their milk, by the litre...in sealed plastic bags. Never used to understand that one.

I also won't forget travelling there on the old Hyrdoflite from North Haven, nor the original Philanderer.

That was also back in the days when tourists could be trusted to walk by themselves among the seals on Seal Bay - before a tiny minority of idiots, unable to understand the words "No closer than 30 feet" eventually forced the hand of the rangers, who then had to escort everyone in groups. I never breached the distance myself, but was there one day when someone did - and be assured, a seal can move mighty quick TOWARD someone when they need to

That was also when people could be trusted to go maurauding into the penguin areas and shine torches into their faces , and actually leave them in peace. When I went for my night walk down Kingscote Jetty though, could hear them everywhere just near the jetty.

I was born and bred on KI CK

My grandmother used to be the one sealing those 'plastic bags' of milk - and I remember going out to the dairy with her a couple of times.

We used to walk along seal bay as kids - but were s*** scared of the seals because we knew that they could charge at you as quick as look at you - scary things !!! ...lol.

Flinders Chase much the same has changed beyond recognition.
Used to be able to go down there and walk amongst the Kangaroos and emus etc, etc - now it's just basically a building, spot the Kangaroo if you can

Both. Used to walk down at night to watch the Troubridge unload its cargo, and would sit on the large tank right next to the ramp on the jetty (A Mum - you would probably know what I'm talking about here?) to see it. Never went over on the Troubridge, but plenty of times on the Philanderer.

Ma - agreed completely about Flinders Chase. Disappointing now in many ways. On that - I've been to Platypus Cove a number of times and yet to ever see one, nor evidence of one. You would also, no doubt, remember the wildlife park that used to be at the end of the Kingscote to Brownlow road? Closed years ago unfortunately - as we found out as a kid the one year we stayed at Brownlow and walked down to find it shut up.

I remember the endless/never ending trip on the troubridge as a kid - mum used to try and make us sleep for the trip.
Geeze we're going right back in the memory banks now!!
When the boat started from Cape Jervis we thought it was the best thing since sliced bread - no more long trips!

hmmm... can't quite remember the wild life park CK - I was more a 'Parndana/Stokes Bay' kid.

We did get to see alot of the touristy things though - mainly because one of my grandfathers used to drive a tourist coach.
