That would require a brain so probably not.

Love the massive egos on show from the two protagonists, those two are like peas in a pod.

When im at a game i never yell abuse to a player who has just been injured but some people carry on about injuries like they are all some tradegy of romeo and juliet proportions.

Look the kid would have been in alot of pain which isnt good BUT if missing 12-13 weeks of football is the worse thing that ever happens in his life i imagine he would have had an absolutly brilliant innings.

A positive lining to it is the kid may have some extra time to really knuckle down on his studies. Hopefully he can ace this then get back to football and begin to play league again.

Imagine if we had a punch up at SANFL games after every single 'let him die', 'dig a hole' 'meat wagon' type comment.

You wait until you're safely at home behind your keyboard before you do that.

Injured player = no go zone.
Also not one of them has put themselves in a fathers position, seeing his lad badly injured and being made fun of.
Dont need that sort of supporter at the footy!!!

Won't someone think of the fathers.

One of the most disgraceful and frightening things I endured in my illustrious football career
I was playing a game against a club called the Parks in the 1980s
A group of inebriated spectators started abusing me[as some braindead supPORTers are inclined to do, against an opposition star player]
After getting what seemed like my 39th kick just b4 half time near the wankers on the boundary, I was taunted and sworn at for the umpteenth time
I told one of the inebriates to f...k off, not a smart thing to do
After half time these guys yelled out to the Parks players offering $20 for every broken bone of mine
The Parks were well in front, and a few decided intentionally to try and harm me
I had a quiet 2nd half as a consequence, and with all bones intact !

It was not a league footy match, just a scrubber division ninety six amatuer league game
But let me tellya it aint fun being abused by the stereotype barrel gutted insulting spectator
I could hearem loud and clear
Most league footballers may not appear to be peturbed by insulting spectators, but nevertheless they do hear them, and indeed have feelings

Mocking injured league footballers is not the right thing
I'm absolutely sure that most people who mock injured players or hurl abuse at players, are being impressionists in front of their mates
As a younger lad, I dished out some light disrespectfool derogativeness at players
I regret that, Ive grown up and wide since those trying to impress my mate days

He needs to get out more! maybe he should come to The Corporate Box at Elizbf this Saturday!

And Cornes' saying the young Bay player 'broke his leg' is a slight exaggeration. Yes, it was a bad fractured ankle, but he makes it sound worse than what it was saying that.

Whether it is a broken ankle or broken leg - it is a break.

Can't believe you blokes :?
A kid is going to miss 12-13 wks of footy - has anyone got the gist of why it was inappropriate to make fun a player under the care of a Trainer and stretchered off yet?

BTW - The bolded quote says it was NOT the worst comment he had heard at a footy ground...

Pfft - can't be bothered with this anymore.

It was pretty tame compared to what would have been said in the past, some people just need to HTFU and take flippant remarks in the context they were said, not as a personal attack on the player, club and every one that supports them

Me personally?
I wouldnt react, if I was going to react to comments like that I would ban myself from going to the football to watch my son playing at league level and I sure as helll wouldn't be standing within earshot of a bar in the outer where opposition fans congregated.
I'd also be too busy making my way around to the change rooms to see how he is.
All common sense I would have thought?

And as I said to you before if my son was playing for Glenelg I'd probably be the one shouting it out!
I find it so ironic that you're a Collingwood fan!

Maybe otr will answer that, as he has been in that position. Unfortunately, your thoughts on this won't change.

I also didn't realize Cornsey was his father.

Yeah agree Wedgie,

as someone who has been going to the SANFL for over 20 years if i had a son playing i wouldnt put myself around a group of opposition supporters who are obviously drinking etc etc.

Its naive to think if you go to a game of football people are going to clap players from both sides and not have any anger to opposition players.

I stand regulary with a young SANFL league/reserve umpires dad, he sits there and listens to his son cop way more than his fair share, especially considering his son has an ethnic background and its pretty obvious. (funny though as he always get called a little indian when infact his greek) at no stage does he react to what supporters of both clubs say. He has been going to football for 40 odd years and has an understanding of what can an does occur.

Wondered if this would be bought up.

Footy's a game and no one, players or spectators, should expect to be laughed at if they get hurt. Says more about the person doing the laughing IMHO.

That more people agree with Cornes is the really funny point here. :D

Sorry topsy, but I'm not referring to a spectator being injured. Referring to another incident in a sport that has much worse crowd behavior.
