Port fans ( not me, couldn't bring myself to "boo" a bloke I rate very highly ) gave it to Burgoyne of Friday night, not sure why to be honest. Why give them extra motivation to perform?

Well its either that or run my opinion past you for approval each time I post. :D

Bock didnt exactly leave under fantastic conditions, I think he would be expecting the old grannies to have a spit at him.

Hey folks,

Just interested to hear - what do impartial observers think of Adelaide's performance yesterday?

Do you think they showed something in the first 3 and a bit quarters? Or was it all undone by letting Collingwood run all over them in the last?

Personally, considering 10(?) players were under 20 games of experience I felt yesterday was a quality performance. They worked hard to build a decent lead, and they answered Collingwood's challenges twice in the third. In the end though they just didn't have the tanks to go with the reigning premiers.

Very disappointed that the margin blew out the way it did, but really I still feel pretty proud of the way the young fellas took it up to 'em. They played hard for as long as they physically could, and that's all you can ask for as a supporter.

I thought Craig coached very well yesterday. Kept it simple with Stiffy as the loose man in defence and a high kick to handpass ratio similar to what Geelong did the week before. Adelaide just don't have enough genuine matchwinners at the moment to keep a side like Collingwood down for the whole four quarters.

Agreed. My only critism is that Dangerfield stayed up forward too long as Collingwood got their run on in the last. Don't know if it would've made too much difference having him in the middle though to be honest, it wouldn't have been worth 10 goals.

I didnt see much of the first half, but, from the scores it appears as though Adelaide managed to hold Collingwood very, very well in the first half. The 'Pies do prefer the space on the "G" so that might be something so consider in this analysis, the Dome not really suiting their wide boundary riding style.

Good effort by the young Crows.

Good comment REB!

It was a tough one with Dangerfield, we probs did need him through the middle but he was almost playing a defensive role on Harry O'brien by taking him to the goal square. This took Harry's run from half back out of play which can be so damaging and he did look suspect playing at FB.

I only saw bits and pieces of the match, so this may well be off the mark ... But it looked as though when the Crrows kicked their last goal, they almost thought "we're nearly there" and they tightened up, which Collingwood took full advantage of.

Was interesting to hear Brian Taylor's remark, regarding Adelaide playing along the boundary lines "when they had owned the corridor in the first half" - Which suggests they'd stopped attacking in such a dangerous manner in an attempt to play it a bit more safe.

It's not a quality that can be picked up overnight, but watching bits of that last quarter I said to my old man that Adelaide would need to keep being first to the ball, take risks and keep trying to kick goals .. If it any time that try to "hang on" they'll be done for.

Collingwood were experimenting in the 1st half & yes the Crows owned the corridor but they ( Crows ) were not allowed that free rein in the 2nd half.
To be honest there was some good signs for the Crows considering they had about 10-12 players that have only played 20 or less games.
Inexperience can be costly in the short term as shown by the youngsters unable to sustain the intensity required for 4 qtrs.
Give the Crows another 2 years & they should be around the mark, by then Craig should be gone aswell which will help.

Interesting experiment. Didak with the green vest on? Heck I just thought he wasn't getting a kick so Mick gave him one. Shaw not getting a kick? Interesting move that one by Micky clever coaching that. Swanny running around at half rat power? Merely conserving energy perhaps. Harry O looking like a fish out of water close to goal? Nothing new there. Maxwell up front I'll give you.

It is possible that you were playing like carp you know.

Must admit I did have a chuckle at No Mercy's 'experiment'. Experimenting what? Just wanted to try being crap for a half? Dare we say Collingwood might have actually been outplayed for a bit.

can be outplayed for as long as you like but it is the end result that matters. I might not be a smart man but the old term, man up rings well!

"Didak" comes on 15 mins in the 3rd qtr & bingo, "Shaw" starts finding the ball "Daisy" lifts another gear, Krakour gets better, so does "Davis", "Tarrant" goes from back to forward & kicks goals....................................................................................................
Only had to play 1 qtr of real footy to win by 7 goals.

As per the Crows Nest:

Gingernuts wrote:Well, after each game so far this year I've honestly felt like we haven't been too far away from it. Tonight I feel like we are a long way from being anything close to a decent outfit.

Ordinary. Absolutely ordinary.

To me it just seems like they keep expecting someone else to do it. Newsflash - no one else is going to do it. We have no genuine matchwinners a la Judd at the moment. If you want to win, you have to do it yourselves, and do it as a team.

I tend to agree with you MM. Season over.

Who have I been kidding? Adelaide are shit. :?

I find this very funny.

I think Neil Craig got ahead of himself earlier in the year when he said this squad was the most exciting he had seen while he has been at the Crows.
