Rowey's a classic example of how microphones can affect people's personalities. He's a good bloke, but the moment he starts talking into the microphone he turns into a blithering idiot.

I wonder if the standard of a commentator drops off the longer they've been in the game.

And if they are a former players, the standard drops off the longer they've been OUT of the game. There are exceptions of course, but I've noticed over the years that players straight out of the game really add something to the media, but then after they've settled in and become one of the boys, they start talking dribble like the best of them.

In a way I feel a little sorry for commentators. They are paid to "give their opinion", but are governed by what they can and cannot say, so they are not really offering their honest opinion. What I wouldn't give for a week of media people saying what they really and honestly think. It would be classic.

At Etihad last week, North had Melbourne well and truly covered by the early stages of the last quarter. Richo on 3AW said basically that North had won, but BT (in a comedic sort of way) kept chiding him and saying how much time there was left. Richo gave a 100% honest opinion, but BT was wearing the station guernsey - can't have those back yard gardeners tuning out. It went on all quarter. Richo finished up saying "this job confuses me" on air.

My vote for worst media personality - Andrew Maher. Total tool.

Saturday just gone, was watching the Melbourne/St Kilda game on the tele here in the Phillipines, Aaron Davey made a mistake, for the rest of the game Luke Darcy just kept going on about Davey, got annoying, i ended up turning the volume down.

I don't understand the hating of Blighty. I find his stuff more insightful, even unusual, than obvious.
The guy coached two premierships, must know something about footy.
Same thing goes for Walls but the biggest problem I have with him is his negativity. Rarely thinks anything is any good unless it is Chris Judd related.

Hutchy and Barrett from Channel 9. Muckraking fluff.
Tim Hodges on Tab Breakfast Radio. Has the over the top “next coach to lose a game will be sacked” mentality that too many journos now have.
Hamish McLachlen from Channel 7. Bit of a pretty boy.
Anthony Hudson, Stephen Rowe, Brian Taylor and Dwayne Russell. Carry on far too much. Over hyped. Cringe worthy at times.
Brayshaw. Generally ok, except when using “try hard/blokey” language when calling on MMM.

Bruce is the absolute worst with his upper inflection and drama-concentrated hestitancy leading into an impending contest. He really does give me the Thomas Tits. Dwayne Russell used to piss me off with his basketball terminology when the ball went inside 50 and he'd claim it to be "in the paint" .... I used to just about chuck the remote across the loungeroom. I like the two Gerard's - Healy and Wakely or Whatley or whatever he is.

Yep, total mystery isn't it? Do you listen to his early morning show on SEN with Tim Watson? What a heap of dribble. I listen to it for about half an hour whilst getting ready for work, hoping to hear some sports news. Most of the time they talk about what they watched on TV the night before, or salivating over some teenage bimbo they call the Prize Princess. I mean ... who give a toss???? When will self indulgent media people understand that talking about what they did the night before, or giggling over "in" jokes is simply not entertaining to the listener?
