Cabbage B's were very inconsistent last year until the end of the season - timed it well really.

Can't see where your b grade improvement will come from. Most of your team would have been 30+ and father time stands still for no man.

Looking at your U17's they were poo in boots last year, so again can't see improvement from there.

For the Devils on the other Hand, only a couple of players out (including a couple of washed up b grade hacks who couldn't get a kick in a street fight - even if they start shit in the pub!!!) but plenty of high quality U17's coming through on the back of a premiership.

Plus the 5-6 rookies in the 06 b grade who will only get bigger and better after their debut season.

I actually expect IB b's to be the big improvers in '07 with their influx of u17's around some senior players. Handorf also to a lesser degree.

Mt Barker to fall right off the pace in the b's.

good call there DA. Devils looks like firm contenders for the B Grade again this year, as well as the improvment within the IB b grade. The improvment from IB i feel will come from their midfield brigade, have seen numerous talented midfielders for them out on track and its hard to see how they will all fit into one team, thus hopefully creating competition within the ranks to gain A spots, thus hopefully better performances. one down side may be the loss of there mail medalist ruckmen, as you would assume he will have more of a role within the A's. team seems on the improve, only problem is who's going to provide support and step up, up forward to provide multiple targets, and how well will their back line can hold up. any thoughts?

another point howerver is what does everyone think bridgy B grade gonna do this year with new recruits in the A's, will they pick up, or was the floggings they recieved last year in the B's gonna be too much to overcome[/quote]

Our B's are a solid unit. There are a couple of players who prob could play A's, bit older, but prefer to play with the B's. They will make the finals regardless of A grade. Few new guys out this year, we will be around the mark. ps DA Wakkas may not be so good on chef front at start of year, lost his licence again!!

I saw the ruckman play a couple of times last year and he really didn't look that flash. how did he win a medal? He's gona be snapped in half in the A's. Surely other candidates are available?

2 of the sillier posts I've seen. But play on, it's the silly season and we all need some entertainment.

I'll continue with the silly theme:

Devils are paying every senior player $1,000 per game.
Juniors get $200 per game and instructions on being a ballbag on the balcony.
Gumeracha and Callington to contend the 2007 Country GF. There will be a fight in the thrid quarter which will halt the game......hang on, that's probably not that silly!!!!
Manos to suit up for shanty and make the 2007 association team.

regarding Gum and Cally, does anyone know how there going? are they going to be fielding sides? How long can the northern area support so many teams! ie.gum, kersbrook, birdwood and torrensvalley all within a stones throw of eachother. surely some mergers / takeovers will have to happen in the next few years??

JC, what's this about how long can they support so many teams, it's Div 2 football, all they need to do is get 18 blokes on the park. Obviously you may not win the flag but that's not necesarilly the main priorty for some country clubs. The last thing you want to do is merge with another club.

Sorry to all you IB people, but I gotta agree with that comment. I saw him play 3 times.

When he played B's against us, our ruckman absolutely killed him in all apects. Centre bounces, taps around the ground, fitness, strength, marking.

Really can't see how he will make the grade in the A's.

And we all know that umpires have no idea about handing out votes!

Mergers will always be a talking point.
Lofty, Bridgey and IB tend to share a similar playing pool and EACH team has gone through some really crap times.
Strong clubs pull through, and although no-oner likes a merger, 30-odd years ago no-one involved with Heathfield/Aldgate/Stirling etc would have been jumping at the chance to become 1...

leaving yourself wide open there LTSO.(unless your taking the mickey at div2 footy)

we all know it takes more than 18 players to form a CLUB.

Speaking of ruckmen, have Lofty got a decent one after Pahl leaving?
One of the Temme's is still there, yeah?

Yeah there's 1 Temme there.
Hopefully 2 sometime soon.
Plus Adam 'big dumb ruckman' Brooks is still winning ballups with the best of them!

very true JQ.

with what it takes to run clubs these days i wouldnt be suprised in the future (obviously years from now) the HFL being only one super division. looking at it geographically it could be:

lobethal
onkaparinga valley
mt.barker/nairne
hahndorf/echunga
uraidla
mt.lofty/bridgewater/ironbank
kersbrook/gumeracha/birdwood
torrens valley
meadows/macclesfield
kangarilla

callington: either fold or join RMFL
blackwood: whoever takes them.

Yeah Nathan Brook is studying to become a pilot so not playing in 07.

Adam Brooks is a gun b grader who will probably play till he's 80

Oh Jeez, Magpie...I like this can of worms you've just unleashed!
Can't wait to see the "no f'n way" comments from all those that you have merging.
Reality is, some of those will happen in the next 10 years.
One problem with a super div is perhaps 'too many' players missing out, or do we incorporate a C grade?
Speaking from experience though, and I'm pretty sure the shanty guys on this forum would think the same, it'd take a monumental effort to merge Lofty and Bridgewater. Too much pride. And where Lofty are now, mergers are so far out of the question it's not funny.

But geographically speaking, I see where you're coming from.

Sorry M80, but Saddam will come back from the dead and GW will give his consent for him to marry both his duaghters and live in Utah before that happens.

Blackwood can merge with a Tasmanian team and play all their games on the apple isle - with themselves. Take some caravans and bugger off!

Good can of worms though for this time of year!!!!!

gees that really is a stupid comment... first of all it takes 42 senior players to get on the park, plus juniors... and thats bare minimum. and trust me some clubs right now are struggling to do even that! At the end of the day the reality will be for some clubs that merger is the only option, as much as it sux and means swallowing your pride for a while.
trust me there are clubs in div2 doing a lot more than just 'getting blokes on the park'. ive said it before, and ill say it again the top few div 2's would open a serious can on the bottom few div 1's.

as i said guys this is well into the future. i can't see some clubs sustaining the requirements thats needed to run football clubs or any other sportsclubs in some towns. i remember playing against stirling when merger talks were going on then and they said NO WAY we would merge with H/A. we all know what happened there. even in the times with hahndorf there were substantial talks with a possibilty of us merging with echunga. i was on the comittee when talks were held.
