Unfortunately I have to agree with Eddie McGuire on this one. He said the other day that anyone who thinks they can accurately tip a final 16 before the season starts is full of it. Too many variances can play a part as the season unfolds.

Syd will again be dangerous but will need another good run with injuries as they may not have the same quality of depth of the other top 3 clubs
Port will also need a good run with injuries to finish top 8
Pies to struggle in the midfield and slide down the ladder
Saints may need to go backwards before they can progress
Hawks may be the smokey

I only look at the preseason injuries from those games.

I agree our draw is a shocker and the only reason I havent picked us to finish in the 8...however I still think we will finish in front of Carlton, Collingwood, Richmond, Essendon at the very least

I think West Coast may defeat the Kangaroos in Perth as well, so there's no need to do anything. However, the game is in Round 10. A lot can happen in that time. Judd and Cox could receive season ending injuries, Kerr could end up in prison where he belongs, and Cousins could book a room in the drug and alcohol abuse clinic. West Coast without those 4 players are anybody's. There's really not a lot between top and bottom these days, just a few top players. ANY team who is hit with injuries to key players will struggle, no matter how much depth they think they've got.

1. West Coast: Will be tough to stop again. Showed they can win without Judd and when they weren't at their best.
2. Fremantle: To complete some WA domination this season. A talented list with some real hunger that will go a long way.
3. Sydney: A hard working combination that has more talent than it is often credited for. Even the so called 'unheralded' players can be damaging.
4. Western Bulldogs: Poised to improve on last year with better luck with their talls.
5. St Kilda: Injuries always a key for this side but I think it's premature to be saying that the 'window is closed'. It might help actually having some ruckmen as well.
6. Geelong: Not top four but not ten either. Plenty of Cats will be playing for the careers this season and the leadership issue appears to be addressed. I expect an improvement. *one eyed supporter alert*.
7. Adelaide: Not looking as strong in the ruck and may have a few forwards underdone early on. Will play some good football but might drop a few extra games this season.
8. Melbourne: Plenty of people are falling over themselves to rate the Demons but I've never been one of them. Defence and road record a worry for mine.

9. Hawthorn: A club on the improve as any Cat fan could attest. Many are predicting a sharp Hawker rise this year but I reckon they might have to wait one more year.
10. Collingwood: Not as bad as many suggest, they may drop back a bit but not as by much as many pundits are prepared to point out. How much will they miss Tarrant?
11. Port: In rebuilding mode still, the Power will play some blinders but you can throw in a few shockers as well. If they got as pumped up for every match as they do for Showdowns (granted big ask) they'd be in the top eight.
12. Essendon: Will improve, but seriously they'd have to after last years 'effort'. Lloyd back will make a huge difference but how much will they gain out of getting the services of a fullback who had 'had a gutful' late last year?
13. Richmond: You've got be concerned for any club that picks up Kent Kingsley and Coughlan has done his knee again the poor bugger. Wallace will nurdle out some wins but I reckon this mob is miles away.
14. Kangaroos: The club that everyone loves to underrate and I've just done the same perhaps, but the personnel appears to be down. How many tricks does Laidley have up his sleeve?
15. Brisbane: The exodus continues from Lionland and this looms as a tough season.
16. Carlton: Will need to find some extra scoring options to support Fev. This club will secure an additional kitchen implement to add to the collection come round 22.

There is no way our player depth is in the top 3 in the league.

The Crows have some good promising juniors as most clubs do and we are going in to the 2007 season 2 players down !!!

I just cant see it, the only good thing is that they arent determined to win the NAB cup like they were last year. I dont think winning the NAB CUP really did their chances in the season any good, may have peaked a little to early, and the middle of the season was really terrible. the last few games were ok when the full team were out on the park and that is the problem, there seems to be a lack of depth.

There is plenty of depth at Geelong. I think the match against Port showed just how much depth there is at the club. Outsiders would suggest that while we lack 'stars', that there is an even spread of talent of players at the club. Have a look at the some of the names of players who would be lucky to get more than two or three games for the year..

Gardinner (Not my favourite player and a definete 'depth' player at the club)
West (Fourth ruckman at the club)
Reynolds (won't be elevated I wouldn't have thought unless injury strikes)
Hunt (back up defender)
Varcoe (back up runner)
Davenport (back up runner)
Spencer (back up defender although a fair candidate to be delisted at the end of the year)
Gamble (shown promise already in his brief career)

Then there's the players who might play four to maybe eight games this year

Djerkerra
Hawkins
Playfair
N Ablett (like to get ten matches out of Nate this year)

Then you've got the fringe players who will play when available/in form

SJohnson (important but ruled out until Round 7)
Tenace
Byrnes
Stokes (in direct competition with Byrnes)
Selwood (immediately into this group for mine)
Blake (depending on conditions and opposition but developing nicely)
Prismall (has replaced Maloney nicely and in fact I think he will prove to be the better player. Doesn't get caught with the ball as often as Beamer did..could play in most matches this season)
Mackie (it's about time he made his spot his own and he's on track so far

The talent is there, it is all about the mental side of the game for the Cats. That is where they fell down in catastrophic fashion last season. The Round 22 match against Hawthorn where they didn't give a stuff is a prime example.

well those fringe players may have further developed after another pre-season.

last season a number of those blokes didnt quite stand up when it mattered, especially in that game against the hawks as you mentioned.

id say that we dont have a team that is full of stars and i would go as far to say that some or our more important players wouldnt be classed as stars by people outside the club.

the one player id argue with is MACKIE, he has had enough time to do something, doesnt belong on an AFL list, i cant believe that he got another contract, he is only an SANFL player at best

IF they play a decent style of footy, I think the Power can surprise a lot of people this season ... Not suggesting they are flag material, but I think they are greatly underestimated by many AFL followers & judges!

At this point in time (and I know games aren't played on paper), the 16 AFL teams look a lot closer than they did last year, and it could be an interesting battle for positions 5-8.
