Full credit to Richmond tonight but gee i thought the Saints were ordinary.

How can they expect to go the distance with numerous players that are quite frankly pretty damn ordinary!

Raph Clarke, Peake, Dawson, Dempster, Blake, Gamble, Clinton Jones.

God thats a ordinary bunch.

Montagna was towelled up in the first three quarters by White and was lazy, Dal Santo got plenty off it but the majority off them where cheap and no help to the side, Goddard was well held and Hayes is injured, Where do they go from here?

If they want Riewoldt to dominate games they need to move the ball quicker and get him one out not kick side to side then try and pin point a target through traffic. God they are frustrating to watch.

I think they have smashed their premiership window and need to get rid of a lot of dead wood at the end of the year.

Will make the 8 but not convincingly.

Good post, agreed. Saints have plenty of stars, but a very, very weak bottom half dozen. As bad an anyone in the league.

Lets not forget they dominate at the Dome and haven't played there yet.

Was out last night, so haven't managed to watch the game in its entirity yet, but there are some worrying signs.

As for Hayes, f^&*!! :(

I read on the St K forum these interesting comments attritbuted to Jason Gram:

- Blokes still thinking about 2 lost GF's
- need to get over it
- hunger to win not there
- RL told the group that there will be an injection of youth
- some players are just looking to play out their last year.

I feel sorry for Ross Lyon because I don't mind him as a coach.

Richmond's leg speed seemed to worry the Saints. Hayes may be gone for the season, although no reports have come out of the saints camp as of yet. Still massive loss.

I hate his crap style of footy and I rejoice whenever this mob of peanuts gets rolled. Try kicking some friggin goals. He can't get out of the game quick enough. Bloody horrible game plan that is very tough to watch but it's been succesful and simple for players of limited ability to stifle better teams. Disgraceful plain and simple.

Hayes gone for the year which means he outside midfielders like Montagna will struggle even more so. Plenty of attention will go to Dal Santo now.
The problem is I dont believe there next tier players are good enough to cover for the loss of Hayes.

Went along tonight stubbornly hoping that the St Kilda of the past few years would reemerge. Obviously though we're a long way off anything that remotely resembles such form.

Good honest players the excelled in 09 and 10 are now being exposed. Players of the ilk of Goddard and Riewoldt are shadows of fomer selves. Our skill level across the boad is sub-par. Hallmark tackling pressure has gone. Very average outfit atm. Soooo slow moving the ball foward by the time it gets into the 50 3/4 of the opposition are there waiting for the damn thing.

Nights like this force you to look back at the events of the past couple of seasons, and lament just how close success was. A point away from premiers last year. A million miles off 6 games later. Kinda sinks in and kicks you in the guts that this core group of players will not deliver a flag despite having been around the mark since 2004. (5 prelims in 7 years).

Tired, somewhat drunk, and emotional, never a good time to post 8) Ah well, it's only a game apparently..

Oh...and yes, we had a good run with the umps tonight, but the decision against Goddard just after half time that gifted Knights a goal was perhaps the worst decision I've seen. Simply dreadful and a blight on our game.

Saints are goners, they look a shadow of previous years and were lucky not to get belted tonight

if adelaide kicked straight in the first half it could have been well and truly over (6.9 in the first half)

Despite the media circus over St Kilda in the off season, I do think they were actually spared some of the worst examinations of it through the media because of their form from the previous season, to finish poorly outside the 8 will likely put the blowtorch well and truly on the club, I have a suspicion at the end of this season St Kilda might be more than just a little active in trading week as they seek to unload some of the players within the club that have brought them to the situation that they currently find themselves in. No doubt many will say that should have happened at the start of the season, yet its clearly fairly easy to be an expert once the season is over.

Please note that St Kilda kicked 1.9 in the first half (and finished with more scoring shots than Adelaide). A 5 goal half time lead was about right. Adelaide clearly deserved the points, but talk of "beltings" is a little over the top.

I was thinking about Round 1 last night. St Kilda were about 5 goals up on Geelong in low scoring scrap and looking like winners. Most thought the Cats might slip this season and St Kilda would be there abouts again. Half an hour later the Cats pinch a win in the final minute, and here we are a month later and the contrast in the two teams is huge.

Turn it up 5 goals up? Both sides only kicked 6 goals for the night. And it wasn't low scoring scrap it was low scoring crap. Geelong have moved on from that night but St Kilda haven't.

Yeah, ok, checked the facts and it was 35-15 23m into 3rd quarter. You've got me, but it felt like 5 goals at the time anyway...
