At Geelong we've got Enright, Mackie, Varcoe and Menzel (I think that's about it) with probably only Enright of that lot being a walk up start.

I did think about a state of origin team but didnt want to post anything about that as it would just go in circles and its been done to death, as much as we would like to see it it wont happen.
Burgoyne only one from Hawks that would be considered

What about the kids that grow up in this state barracking for either SA team knowing that if by some chance they are lucky enough to have the talent to play AFL they will more than likely not be playing for the team they love, thus the passion for AFL is slowly being wiped away and it will be a business with free trade.
Just maybe one day we will hear an AFL player say i play for the cats but i am a port fan. Not really any different to the guy thats sells Jacobs Creek wines but would rather drink Penfolds.
Paasion is leaving the game and this is why supporters are coming back to the SANFL where you feel you have some ownership of your club and can watch young Johnny come through the ranks and play league footy for the club he has barracked for all his life.

Mark Dreher, Neville Roberts, Tim Evans, Anthony Harvey, Chris and James Gowans and many others all say hello. If you think that players only move one way you are kidding yourself. The only culture is FOOTBALL culture and that culture is get the best players available.

Did I care that Neville Roberts was a Victorian or Neil Balme was a Western Australian? I didn't matter squat because we won a couple of premierships with those blokes. The only reason 'passion' is leaving the AFL is that Adelaide and the Power both suck. Any football club in the land will always lose bandwagonners when they start losing. Perhaps you're one of those.

REB

The SANFL clubs have always recruited "oustiders", however it was to supplement the local-based playing list, they were in the minority. Players like the Gowans and Harvey had the choice to come to SA to play footy after playing AFL footy in their home state (someone drafted today has no choice where they play). An SA raised lad has just over a 10% chance of playing in their home state, for a Victorian its over 50%.

Its why I'd like to see zoning brought in, however, this will never happen due to the philosophies underpinning the AFL (socialism and money).

Nah Reb you are wrong this time. Players although drafted to a SA club will tend to head home after x years where as SA draftees will not. This is simply why would you want to come back to Adelaide after spending a few years getting settled into Melbourne or where ever. Its just players dont really want to come to Adelaide.

What has happened to Bobby Carlisle..?? A couple of years ago it looked like he was going to become one of the premier fullbacks in the comp. Was rarely beaten despite constantly under the pump on the last line.

There was talk of GWS sniffing around at the start of the year and right now I hope those rumours are correct. Definately needs some time in the SANFL because some of his efforts this year have been awful and not what you would expect from what is now an experienced player.

Ummmm what a joke!

Every young lad has a 1/16 chance of being drafted to the club he barracked for in the AFL, no matter what state he is born in.

Bit tough on Bob mate. Has played 50 odd games and as a full back you are only as good as the midfield pressure being applied up the ground, which, at the moment, is next to **** all and as a result the back half is under heaps of pressure.

One thing I will grant you is that he looks like he needs to drop 4-5kg at least as he is pretty big at the moment. Perhaps this is to help him in the one on one's with the Cloke, Hall, Brown types but this slows his movement down around the ground.

His shepard (attempted shepard  ) of the man on the mark which resulted in the smother and winning goal to GC was insipid to say the least, not Jaspers fault.

There was a contest between Carlisle & Smith (I think) where Smith just brushed him aside and in the end took a fairly easy mark directly in front of goal.

I’m not blaming this poor start (and Saturdays embarrassment) purely on Carlisle but if you were to go through each game this year I reckon you would find a number of these types of efforts from him which haven’t been good enough in 1 on 1 situations.

We could sit here and go thru the whole 22 from Saturday and provide reasons why each player should / could be dropped but for me whether it needs to be to play up the field and get extra fitness or to simply provide some motivation bobby should be back in the SANFL for at least 1 week and probably more.

"just playing the kids" as we seem to be doing now is pointless if we don't have the experienced players there to drag them up to their level. Right now the only two experienced players who are showing on field leadership and teaching the young kids what to do is Brogan and Motlop. Bring Chad in for Carlisle and let him marshal the troops back there because O'Shea is horribly out if his depth back there, constantly out of position and has no one there to provide leadership as Chaplin spends his time covering Carlisles mistakes and deplorable lack of speed and effort

We already have 3 tall defenders so Chad wont get a game there. As for forwards Schulz is there and has a few years on Chad so its tuff to get a gig there also. Me i would play him in the middle for his bigger body size and pinch hit up forward. Unfortunately a coach looking to the future and a 30 yo Chad arent a great mix ATM. Hope he gets atleast one more game for the year he's been a great servant of the club.

I heard via a mate that Laidley was on SEN (I think) saying that the game has gone past Chad. I wonder if Primus has heard about this apparent comment?

I remember quite a number of years ago when Shane Watson from Collingwood was interviewed on TV and asked the question why he was playing in the reserves when the club was struggling. He said even though he would normally be picked to play league he totally understood the club wishing to play the younger players and was told that by the club. From an outside point of view with Chad Cornes maybe the communication hasnt been there and if they wish to go down that path then give him his send off game with the club,as whilst it would be great to be part of the team, when you arent being picked, the enjoyment isnt there.
