Why do you ask Panther32 - are you trying to gauge the competition for personal reasons or just merely curious?

without seeing a lot of saafl i think it would probably be a reasonable standard, the top teams ie langhorne creek and willunga of last year would compete well with the div 2 sides, div 1 probably a bit above, they might get a couple of wins, maybe more who knows but i cant give u much more than a guess, knowing a few names from div 1 and knowing wat those 2 sides had.
hope that helped a little bit

To be fair Edwardstown may be not a good gauge but they would not come close to Langhorne or Willunga but would be too strong for the rest. On that equation Div 2 sides SAAFl would be a good guess. Some good players from Henley played at Victor and struggled in that team.

Fair to say though that it comes down to the individual regarding struggling in country comps. It does seem though that every bloody country league reckons they are A2 standard! Im hearing everyone rate Willunga and Langhorne as if they'd go close to playing AFL, some clarity would be nice?

Observer are you saying that simply Willunga and langhorn are the best going around as country at the minute and they will again be unstoppable in 07??

My thoughts on the subject would be that Willunga would certainly be a top 5 club in country SA (country excludes Southern League and Amateurs). They'd be up there with Mt Lofty, Jervois and the top Mt Gambier sides, and probably some others no doubt. Willunga has been dominant for last 3 or so years so may even be higher than that, but how you could tell is almost impossible. Wouldn't it be great for a competition between premier clubs to be played a week or 2 after the respective GF's, between premier clubs, and to make it worthwhile for the clubs to compete and take it seriously, significant prize money could be awarded to both the winning club and their league. Unlikely to happen, but would be good to see.

On a similar note, its been mentioned in the past that with some clubs becoming stronger and some weaker (River Murray Football League prime example of this), particularly with dwindling townships in farming areas (caused in no small part due to A grade quality footballers moving to larger townships for work/study), eventually "super" competitions might be formed with divisions. This would involve for example a league involving Willunga, L Creek, Jervois, Imperials, Ramblers, and Mt Lofty and Uraidla. Mid range teams such as Onkaparinga Valley, Encounter Bay and Strathalbyn etc etc would then play in a lower division. Same could apply in other geographical locations such as South East.....Barossa/Plains....Riverland.....and Eyre Peninsula.

Cant see this happening in the immediate future, but who knows, this may be the way of country footy in 30 or so years.

Having watched The Creek & Willunga over the last few years and also watching Div 1 & 2 I would say Div 1 would be too strong and also top half of Div 2 would also be too strong. Fitness of players in the GSFL is way inferior, the top 12 players in GSFL would be on par with Div1/2 but drops off after that quickly. Just what I have seen

Good to get your feedback lads, as i said it just seems that every bloody country league counts themselves at div 2 standard. Its my understanding that Willunga lost a few games last year and almost the GF, they dropped one game at home against Encounter.

With dwindling numbers mroe money will just be spent on imports in the short term.
Tell me gentlemen - do you rate the SFL over the GSFL? Personally i was not impressed in the slightest by the SFL last year, then having seen games where teams were smashed by 30 goals only to come out the next week and win by 30 is ridiculous and surely makes for an average league? I understand every league has a great 3-4 teams but when you look at a league as whole would it be fair to state the follwoing or do you disagree

J.Jarred is a strongly bulit ruckmen. Lacks skill but has a go. Has gone to Christies Beach. Will only play A grade if Christies are really struggling. B grader at Encounter.

Reported in the Victor Harbor Times that Portlock from Willunga is trying out with South Adelaide, but presumably would be back with them if he doesn't make the grade at SANFL level.
