St.Kilda Season 2011

Postby hearts on fire » Sun Feb 06, 2011 7:25 pm

After last years Grand Final disappointment and 2009 aswell, can they get there again?

Sure, the Saints will be competitive this year, but they will fall apart come finals time.

Top 4 finish, but come finals, they will fall apart.

Home of the Saints for 2011!

FROM AFL SITE:

With the disappointment of successive grand final losses seared into their collective memory, the Saints will launch their campaign to go one better when they take on Geelong on a Friday night at the MCG in round one.

In round five, St Kilda travels to Brisbane for an Easter Thursday night meeting with the Lions at the Gabba, while the following weekend they're off to AAMI Stadium to play the Crows.

St Kilda will play its grand final opponent Collingwood in rounds 11 and 21, and will also have a return bout against the Cats in round 13.

Hi Hoff,

Can't see them playing in a Grand Final in 2011. :D

Far too hot for 2 years without the top prize.

May well rue 2010 as the one that got away and pay the price for a few years on it. Need Kosi to do something constructive on the field for a sustained period, to give Riewoldt some support. Plenty of players find the ball and do it well, but wonder how a combination of missing the flag, all the off-season stuff and another year older will go for them. Top 4, but not a flag.

Still think they'll be a force and will probably play the Woodsmen in the GF again. Gun midfield, hardest working CHF in the comp, and killer defensive rebound.

Indiscretions will be a thing of the past (provided they don't keep cropping up) once the real footy starts. Footy players will do what they know best and that is play footy.

Gun midfield? They still haven't replaced Ball as that inside mid. While they'll be about the place maybe a Granny is beyond them this season unless Cameron Mooney pushes someone in the back in the last minute or Nick Riewoldt dives at the start of the second half of one of their finals this year.

I think 09 was the GF they will rue more so than 2010. They were lucky to force the replay last year and got found out the following week. Some massive changes required to make a gf again and i cant see a big enough improvement in their squad to keep up. Prelim final at best.

The Saints will once again be tough to beat during the H&A season, winning 15+ to finish top 4 again. Then they'll all get naked and cry together.

Haven't replaced Ball, but as long Hayes is winning the hard ball then they'll be fine.

After the talk over the summer that they would play a more attacking style this season they dish up more boring football. I'm glad Geelong pinched the win in the end.

Saw nothing last night to suggest the Saints have made any adjustments to previous seasons. Will be around the mark, but their inability to effect scoreboard pressure when they have the upper hand is the reason they lost to the Cats, and the reason why they will be suspect in big games.

You simply cannot think a lead of 20 points halfway into the 2nd quarter is enough to win a game of football.

Keep playing that style of football and they will finish in the bottom eight which is not a bad thing then we might get away from the this crap style of flooding and everyone forward of the ball and back to football that everyboby wants to see.

I hope your right but the saints have been playing this way for the past few years and have made 2 consecutive GF's. By far the worst team to watch in the AFL.

Which is odd for a team boasting the talent it has.

The players and coaching staff couldn't give a crap about the spectacle, their job is to win games. Ross Lyon has the best winning percentage of any current AFL coach (bar Hird), the Saints have made two GFs and missed the flag last year by a single point. They're doing a lot right I would've thought, just like Sydney did five years ago.

As a Richmond supporter, I can safely say I'd rather have had St Kilda's last couple of years than our last thirty.
