I've only ever heard of it as the Barracuda as well. Never heard of it called the Shocker!

I've heard both names but I've always kept with the Barracuda.

A hand signal is over the top? Wow.
It wasn't a fist pump or any such thing, it was blokes skylarking in a photo.
However, I'm sure the boys using the signal knew what it was ;)

Maybe if not over the top, perhaps we can agree on unnecessary? I guess I'm just too old fashioned for sport these days, a time where people consider obscene gestures and behaviour in public as acceptable. I recall when I started with the Norwood Under 17s back in the 1970s. We had a function over at the clubrooms after practice, and the team manager was pacing around the change room reading the riot act to us about behaviour.

He made it clear that we were representing a great football club, that we were expected to behave, otherwise we would be disciplined by the club. It left an indelible impression on me about what was expected of us as footballers, and as young men who were custodians of the game.

When I see the neanderthal behaviour of some of today's "senior" players, I just shake my head.

I totally agree it was unacceptable as I find it hard to believe he wasn't aware of what it meant.

I too had a rep coach that was like that - made us clean our boots, tuck our guernseys in and pull up our socks before we could play. Was a bit of a shock for some of us northern suburbs boys.

I've got no doubt he knew exactly what it meant mate, it was clearly to get a laugh out of his mates when they read the paper the next day.

Some people just take things way too seriously. Did he hurt or kill anyone? Like I said, slow news week for footy journos with Fev out of the country.

Totally silly on his behalf and equally poor behaviour on behalf of the newspaper that made a deal out of it.

It is to the public's benefit, after all, to know what exactly what that signal might mean....

Didn't it come out because of some bloke ringing 3AW and then it ended up on the AFL site?

You could be right.
