No 2 city venues, one main sport at each - the competition between the 2 for other major events could only improve the returns on each one

As was reported in an article in today's fishwrapper? ... we've had a 2 stadiums in Adelaide for the last 37 years and that hasn't provided any competition so how would this change in the future?

So how much more money could they have made with half the expense base?

.... and now times have changed and it's time to move on Dutchy. Had they done this 20 years ago they may have been even more prosperous now. The obvious answer to your question is why then are the SACA and the SANFL so keen to go ahead if it's such a great idea not to?

There's also the issue of the impact on the SACA of a rival new stadium up the road. You somehow think that's going to be good for the SACA. Why? Every decent event bar the cricket will disappear off the SACA's books to the shiny new stadium and I reckon 20-20 cricket wouldn't be far behind.

There's other issues as well but most of it has been discussed in depth and debated elsewhere.

As I said before, why not call the SACA and ask these questions rather than on here? Go into the SMA in town and have a look! I reckon every SACA member should do exactly that before the vote date. If you soley rely on asking questions on forums I am not sure how far you will get.

Thought it was a good debate being one of the most important decisions our city has had to make for quite a while, many pro AO posters are getting very defensive when the questions have been asked. Now Im being told to stop debating/discussing?

I actually work 2 floors above the SMA, maybe Ill go have a coffee with them and stop any discussion on here....

AAMI is worth $350m sell that plus the current Govt contribution and you have nearly $1b to build a new stadium, which even the pro AO agree would be the ideal situation

IMHO only ..

The Power and Crows will eventually own their own licenses, thus ending the dividend they pay to the SANFL.

For that competition to remain alive, most of the participating clubs will need that dividend, which would then come via the leasing of land and facilities at West Lakes.

Sure, my comments are only speculative and not factual, but I've done a fair amount of homework on this and it's how I believe things will progress .. So from a purely selfish, SANFL competition point of view only, I hope this AO agreement goes ahead.

funnily enough the irony comes blatantly from you wedgie. I've said it before, but your way of thinking actually contributes to SA being the backwards state... A lot needs to change for us to drop this tag and it sarts with individuals. We want progress, you want a completely forward thinking move axed!!

Wedgie

SMAC raised the issue of the benefits of sharing stadium costs

Dutchy said the status quo had worked for 40 years (maintaining 2 stadiums)

I said it was time to move on from that (maintaining 2 stadiums), things have changed

It was a discussion about sharing stadium costs

That's why your flame post about 1960, now further added to by more insults, doesn't make sense.

Nice to see a site owner taking up personal attacks instead of rational discussion ! I want us to have an informed debate, that's all.

I agree too. Dutchy is in a good position to get the facts and is an intelligent bloke who works close to the SMA so why not get some facts into the discussion.

I'll start with one - the Libs CBD Stadium plan forced the SANFL to sell everything and take up a 30-40% stake in a new stadium used for 7 months of the year. The alternative plan allows the SANFL to retain everything it currently owns and put it to an alternative commercial use. From what I have read this will be very lucrative for the SANFL. Instead of maintaining 2 stadiums, the SACA and SANFL can share the costs of maintaining one. The SACA also get a major redevelopment (rather than building a major competitor) the same as every other mainland cricket ground bar the WACA has received. If it's so backwards here why did Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne do it?

Discuss away ... 8)

Not everyone is thinking like it is 1960.

Can I ask though, why the interest in this? You dont go to Footy Park, you think Adelaide Oval is a hole and proudly proclaim your last vote at the State election. I'd figure you would have no interest in this debate at all.

Do you think a purpose built, covered ( or not ) stadium is the way to go, or just keep what we already have. I'll be interested to hear what the best outcome in your opinion is?

Hasnt Wedgie stated his position on the second stadium 10 times on this debate already,
Or am I imaging it.

This move is important to all SANFL supporters IMHO. A lot of ramificiations to SANFL clubs if the SA-AFl clubs keep failing the way they are.
