At least with the Premier Membership you don't have to sit with the same idiots week in week out.

I think there are many people in your situation Brucetiki. Been members for years and have enjoyed it, but getting to games is just becoming a lot of effort and they aren't enjoying it enough anymore to justify the expense.

I just think it's just the natural evolution of the supporter/membership base though, and for everyone of those that drops their memberships, there's someone else who is keen for the season ticket experience who will take their place (ie my wife and I last year).

If that was the case and people are lining up to take over memberships via evolution.

Wouldnt that mean Adelaide FC's membership wouldnt of decreased

BTW

Adelaide FC's Membership figures since 2007

2007 50,976
2008 48,720
2009 46,472
2010 45,545

Approx 5500 less to my calculations ???

45k members is pretty damn good...... fair few other clubs would love to boast that amount.

Cost of living and prioritising lifes pleasures also can be factored into the miner decrease over 4 years

5K drop off = crap result for the team of all south australians with a supposed 15 year wiating list IMHO.

Even Steven Trigg agrees.

I thought all these lame excuses re: crowds was just for Power fans.

Thanks Gingernuts and Footy Smart you have proven that theory incorrect.

RC where does you allegience lay? You dont have a team listed other than the poms.

When was a 15 year waiting list announced? There was a waiting list about 10 years ago before the new stand was built

Lame? and dont see how our facts/reasons are excuses. Yes a drop in membership is not ideal, but a 5k drop in 4 years when you still have 45k members is hardly battle stations

My allegiance = 100% Centrals

Well Considering 17000 of those members are really SANFL members that get included for both PAFC and AFC membership.

So out of a possible 33000 memberships.

The crows can only sell 28000(based on 2010 numbers) and that figure has fallen again this year.

Whilst Not bad.

The bottom line is : very dissappointing the team for all sa can not sell out.

Positive for you though : You arent as bad as Port Adelaide.

Exactly, it's a football code .. If I follow Adelaide United, why shouldn't I be able to follow Liverpool, Celtic and Barcelona and completely different competitions?

Each to their own, but Iv'e never had any problem with anyone supporting whomever they like .. Once upon a time you would have been frowned upon for living in Norwood and barracking for any club outside of that area, and these days very few people in the area support (or even care about) the club.

In 2007 Central endured a much larger percentage drop of members than Adelaide will this year.
Obviously hurt Central no end.

PS I don't understand how any South Australians could follow the Crows after all we are Crow Eaters. :?

Yes Wedgie.

I dropped membership a few years back now.

The membership offered me very little.

Pist me off when I had to pay for after grandfinal entrance to the oval.

At least a free schooner with the players in the club....

Your local only wants your money.

I follow SA Crows and SA Power.
Smile :)

It's only Money $$$ :)

What is happening to our SANFL guys...

I respect those South Australians, that stood by, and continue to support their football clubs after 1991. Surprising that someone as intelligent as you Psyber, can get sucked in to the SA "anti-Victorian, kick a vic" mentality. Like Dutchy says, it's a club comp, not state versus state.

In the early days of the Crows, when questioned why I didn't drop Essendon in favour of the Crows I used to reply that I wouldn't drop Centrals if Golden Grove entered the SANFL... Loyalty wins for me.

Couple of other people live or grew up in Norwood, but they haven't posted it in the last couple of days, so I can't remember who.

The AFL is a state based competition - it is a re-badged Melbourne controlled "VFL", which is what I called it.
It is not a true national league, and my issue is with the control not the players and where they came from or who they play for.

I can understand how younger people might choose any "AFL" team that appeals to them once this despicable coup - the stealing of the proposed national league - has been buried and forgotten in the annals of history.
But I've never understood those who remember this coup following a Melbourne team, nor why pre-coup anyone here cared about Melbourne football at all.

I recognise that I'm a bit unusual, not fitting in automatically with the local peer group, or with a common male commitment to follow all sport, any sport.
I chose which sport and teams I followed out of personal and family, then state, affiliations..
At one time, under some peer pressure as a child, I did feign an interest in Hawthorn, but just to deflect, easily, any pressure to follow the VFL at all.
I chose a then unpopular here VFL team, and didn't fool myself into actually caring about it just because it existed..

Maybe people are just finally getting sick of the AFL. It's a bullshit unbalanced competition. I know of a handful of mates here that use to go religously that no longer go. I haven't signed up as a member for the past three seasons and won't be doing so again. I'll still sign up for the mighty chooks though.

Its cause the game keeps changing the rules and people are sick of hearing how much the big wigs are raking in!

Money hungry business = AFL
You see, this profession is filled to the brim with unrealistic mother ****! Mother **** who thought their ass would age like wine. If you mean it turns to vinegar, it does. If you mean it gets better with age, it don't.

Those thoughts have already been dispelled with the facts that the AFL membership and attendance is at an all time high and are quite remarkable when compared to any other sport in the world. Its a local issue (if in fact it is an issue which is debatable).
I blame the local downturn on the fact that the local AFL teams might move to Adelaide Oval and that scares the bejesus out of any sane person.
