I still remember years ago watching a doco on the AFL draft and the two featured players were Adam Ramanaskaus and Fev . And there were question marks over Fev then for the way he conducted himself at that stage as a 17 year old. Carrying on like an idiot on the field , mouthing off, generally being un disciplined . Clearly he is yet to grow up ...... absolute moron if you ask me with that ability basically throwing an afl career away and with that losing ya wife and every penny you have made from the game. No one to blame but himself

I remember the doco you are referring to and IIRC, there were three players featured, the other being Des Headland.

Fev came across as a prat then but IMO, it's incumbent on the clubs to identify that and work with the player if they wish to take advantage of their football abilities. Players with obvious issues like Fev should be made to work with counsellors or mentors on an ongoing basis or be let go there and then. Recruiters get their pants all wet just watching these young blokes play the game without taking into consideration the potential disruption that someone with mental issues is going to bring to the club.

Voss has even less excuse not to have a plan in place, there's years of behaviour at league level to base an assessment on, he wasn't a raw kid when he rocked up at the Lions.

Anyone know what the doco was called?

I reckon it was called "The Draft"
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

The Draft was based on the 1998 AFL draft IIRC. Those who went to the CK - College of Knowledge at Underdale would recognise John Turnbull in it. Former lecturer who was interviewed several times in teh doco as Hawthorns chief recruiter. JT was also a former 2s coach at Norwood. Funny watching Fevs face in that doco as the draft moves further and further into the later rounds and he isn't picked up. He's a 3rd rounder IIRC

I still have a VHS copy at home of it.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Brisbane have terminated the contract of Albert Proud tonight. Club statement below:

"The Brisbane Lions AFC has tonight terminated the contract of rookie list player, Albert Proud, for failing to meet the expectations and behavioural standards of an AFL player.

Proud was informed of the decision by the Club during a meeting with Lions officials this afternoon.

Proud was suspended indefinitely by the Club following a police matter last month.

Lions General Manager - Football Operations, Dean Warren, said: "The Brisbane Lions will no longer compromise our standards and expectations, as we seek to build a strong culture for the long term benefit of all players and the Club as a whole."

"Whilst Albert was extremely disappointed with the decision, he understood our position."

"We have offered Albert ongoing support to assist in his transition out of an AFL environment which can often be a difficult time for some players."

Proud had been handed a rookie list opportunity by the Lions this year after being delisted at the end of the 2010 season.

There will be no further comment from the Club."

A disappointed Brendan Fevola could launch legal action against the Brisbane Lions if they terminate his contract this week.
Fevola is still being treated in a Brisbane rehabilitation clinic and has been kept in the dark since a series of off-field incidents put his playing future in jeopardy.

Fevola offered a short comment when asked if his career at the Lions was over: "They literally haven't told me anything," he told the Sunday Herald Sun. "I have no idea what's going on."

Sources close to Fevola say he would consider suing the Lions for the remaining two years of his contract.

The club would be looking to split the $1.9 million - not $1.5 million as has been reported - over two years but Fevola wants it paid immediately.

The troubled star advertised his services as a full-forward on Facebook yesterday, but it was later removed.

What also caught my eye in this story ...

The former Carlton forward is also taking the drug Antabuse, also known as Disulfiram, which is a treatment for alcohol abuse.

If the drug and alcohol are consumed together it can be lethal.

Going to the US to tryout for a punting job.
I don't think Roger Goodell will be any more lenient if

Sources have suggested the AFL will assist the Lions with their salary cap requirements in the wake of the high-profile sacking.

Bet if this happened at Carlton they wouldn't......

Brisbane should've forced him on that anti-alcohol medication as part of his contract. All too late now, Voss has caused a lot of damage to the club with his gamble and Fev's career is over.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Some (minor) relief for Fev (at least up here), with the Broncos sacking their coach and taking the spotlight.

Mostly it just causes headache, nausea, and some vomiting, but if the drinker ignores those warnings and keeps drinking...

It is usually only used with a fully informed patient who is advised that if they want to return to drinking they have to be off it several days to be safe from ill effects.
The benefit is that it does pull up the person who gives into the temptation to try "just one", but they can choose to discontinue it easily if not motivated to stick to their declared intent to abstain from alcohol.
It has been around since the 1970's but never on the PBS to my knowledge - I haven't checked lately.
Last time I did check, it was about $70 a week, but I guess a lot spent more than that a week on booze.
