GL 12-14
NW 4-7
1981 prelim final
I had been overseas for almost all the season
I was in Darwin September 81 and was in love
But NW was in a prelim final
I caught the flight to AdelaidE too see the prelim final, the only game I spectated in 1981
It was one of the most frustrating games of footy I have ever seen
GL kicked with a typhoon in the first qtr and led by about 7 goals at 1/4 time
Late in that 1st qtr the typhoon swirled around to the opposite direction
GL had the hurricane in the 2nd quarter
In all GL had the breeze for 3 quarters
If ever a game was decoided by the toss of a coin, then this was it
And I left Darwin for this game ....

There 4 GL should have won by 72 points !
GL only won by 55 points

I ran into Shearman in a pub in Melbourne years ago and mentioned it to him - he couldn't remember it but didn't reject the notion of it.

John Murphy[Fitzroy] was cleared to South Melbourne
There was speculation that Murphy would play in the SANFL
PA , WDV and NW were teams that were trying to get Murphy over

And currently 133 years old
On 28/2/1878 there was a meeting at the Norfolk Arms Hotel in town

Norwood won a flag in their first season
They've been in a slump since I started following them in the later 1950s.Premierships: 27 - 1878-83; 1887-89; 1891; 1894; 1901; 1904; 1907; 1922-23; 1925; 1929; 1941; 1946; 1948; 1950; 1975; 1978; 1982; 1984; 1997.
