Adelaide Season 2011

Talk on the national game

May just sneak in, but some real weaknesses around the ground, and a heck of a lot of "ifs". One thing that does stand out though, and yes, this one may bite me by round 22 - but don't reckon Central will see much of Ian Callinan. He's the one sort of player Adelaide have lacked - a genuine, small forward that can also have a run around the middle (I know Chris Knights will be get mentioned here by some, but he's more a traditional half forward), and really think he will seize the chance.

I rekon your right, and would love nothing more than seeing him play a role at AFL level. If he can is yet to be seen.

Will need Taylor Walker to shake his inconsistency and get some more around Tippett's feet. Not really sure about the back six, that's a lot of experience gone in the offseason. Scott Stevens, Phil Davis and to an extent, James Sellar will find themselves thrown in the key positions back there, but will need support. Andy Otten is a massive bonus, if he stands up.

Stevens has plenty of experience and Phil has shown he can hold the CHB role down when Bock was out. Add Rutten and Johncock there is a fair base IMO

The guys like Tony Armstrong (when available), Myke Cook, Rory Sloane and Brodie Martin are the keys in some ways. We know players like Van Berlo, Thompson and Porplyzia will get their hands on it, but they will need help in the rotations, all getting even more attention this year.

Armstrong and cook arent near my best side, blokes like martin, sloane, dangerfield, douglas are the keys for me

I dont mind the idea of seeing if he can cut it back there .. Lets face it the bloke has good size and decent ability, so if he can string some performances together this season and get consistent gametime he's still a chance at a decent AFL career.

Conversely though, if he can't cut it this year then he could well be knackered.

EGGSACTLY.

A few points:

- Forward line is the best part of the team lineup by far. All members of this group primed for a big one IMO. With the worst conversion rate in the comp.
- Midfield needs 2 or 3 to step up to be competitive. Can have the best forwards in the comp, it won't help if it never gets down there. You need more than that. Fancy people rating Scotty turnover Thompson and Bernie can't shake a tag Vince.- I don't think run out of defence will be a problem. I reckon cool heads under pressure will be. The absence of a 300+ gamer to marshall defence could be bad, turnovers a plenty the result. I am hoping Johncock, Stevens, Otten & Van Berlo will find enough between them to remedy this. PLODDERS.
- I see the absence of veterans as a reason we will improve rather than a reason we won't. Those players were absent from the team in the last 6 weeks or so of last season and the younger players held their own against the best. BWAHAHA. Try doing it all year.

I am quitely optimistic about our chances this year, & I don't think the players would mind being written off by the 'experts'. In fact, I reckon they would prefer it to the top 4 predictions of last year. Your only hope is that I've picked you to miss the eight.
Regardless of results, I am really looking forward to watching who will take the next step to form the new 'elite' players in the side. And the good thing is that you can do the same thing next year heh heh.

Ah, it's all good Gingernuts! CARN THE CATTERS.

Struggle to make 8. And even if they do make the 8 with craigs great finals record they will bomb out early anyway.
Every year they get pumped up by the media in this state and then they have every excuse possible when they fail

finish anywhere from 4th to 12th

it really depends on our injury list and the form of the younger players.
this means season 2011 is going to be one of the most unpredicted seasons for adelaide with big wins and shock losses more
common than previous years.

Agreed Clanger!

I think most supporters are going into this season with more excitment on what the Crows could achieve this year rather then high expectations of finishing top 4. A lot of people are excited to see more improvement out of Walker, Tippett, Dangerfield and the next generation of Luke Thompson, Martin, Smith. But as clanger said, could be a bit of an unpredicatable season after losing a lot of experience!

I don't mind if we miss out on the 8 as long as the young guys show a bit and if something isn't going right it gets changed and you they (coaching staff) try something different. You can't be a one trick pony in the AFL anymore.

At this stage I don't have enough information about fitness and form to have an opinion - or even a wild guess - about any team.
I look forward to the first pre-season funnies that may give me some idea.

I knew someone would appreciate me... ;)

Good forward half, erratic mid-field ( no real class ball delivery from any of them ) and a sound back half. I expect them to match the top sides for brief periods and be better than the bottom 6. Hang on, there is nothing new there.!

Be good against the top sides for a 1/2 and then blown out of the water, and then when it doesn't count beat them by 5-6 goals - e.g StKilda round 22 2010

have you forgetten we defeated fremantle in round 11 at home with a 2-8 win/loss record compared to fremantle 8-2.

Geelong (12-3) in round 16 when they had a chance to keep collingwood and st kilda at bay at the top of the ladder we defeated them costing geelong top spot.

i would call these very important games during last season for all three sides.
