Talk on the national game

West Coast Season 2011

Postby hearts on fire » Sun Feb 06, 2011 7:29 pm

After their worst season ever in there time in the competition, the only way from here is up, but its hard seeing any vast improvements over such a short time.

They may be able to crawl off the bottom, but won't be far away from it for mine.

13-17 finish i believe.

All talk on the Eagles right here in the Eagles nest for 2011!

FROM AFL SITE:

West Coast will begin its campaign with a home match against North Melbourne at the renamed Patersons Stadium. The Eagles have their first and last home and away games at home due to the fact they travelled for the corresponding matches in 2010.

The first derby against Fremantle will be on a Sunday afternoon in round eight, while the second is in round 18. The first of those clashes is an Eagles home game.

West Coast will host an indigenous-themed game against the Western Bulldogs on the same weekend (round nine) in which the Dreamtime at the 'G match between Richmond and Essendon is held in Melbourne.

Will surprise a few, and will look like pushing for a finals berth mid-season, before fading at the end. Some good kids starting to really step up through the middle, like Chris Masten, Scott Selwood, and look for Koby Stevens to have an impact this year. Daniel Kerr the real wildcard for them. If the hamstrings don't hold up, he may bid farewell to the club by season end. If they do, could be a big bonus, but needs to shake a tag better.

Seem light on in attack with McKinley gone, but Kennedy the one to take his opportunity. Natanui may also spend a fair degree of time in attack also. Cox will need to drag a big season out of his battered body and try to return to his best form.

clanger this is your thread as West Coast make plenty of them. They'll finish ahead of the Lions and maybe Essendon as well.

These bloke will fight with Essendon, Brisbane and the Suns for splinter rights.

Worsfold should be getting his resume in order to send to Sheeds.

I think the eags will surprise quite a few this year. Firstly Coxy has done a full preseason. Last season he was playing catchup and his form stunk so expect an improvement there. Kennedy will improve more. His first half of last year was exceptional but fell away towards the end. Kerr geez if we can get 85% of the year from him can only improve the side. Darren glass fit will only strengthen the backline.
Gaff looks like a superstar and with him masten ebo shuey with priddis selwood brothers improve it can only mean an improvement. Natanui should be better aswell.
If they can improve their skills they should move up the ladder.
I'm not expecting miracles but anywhere between 6-14 and Woosha will be sacked.....

And yes iv said improve alot cos that's hopefully what they do

13 - 17 My opinion. I believe they are better than Brisbane and probably on par with Essendon and the Gold Coast. So really they could finish as high as say 13 or 14, but I dont believe they will do better than that. Still I think they will use the ball alot better this season.

There forward line for the first time in a while has some potential about it. With Kennedy down there and from what I have seem in the NAB cup and probably thnks to our new sub rule, Nataniu will be spending plenty of time down there. Add to the fact that LeCras is ruuning around there and well you definitly have something to work with. They will kick some goals this year.
Midfield, well they will get Kerr back from injury, Priddis always goes well, Ebert will keep getting better, selwood is solid and well Masten still needs plenty of work before he is showing what he can do. Still its not totaly bad, probably lacking some depth but still they have some good youngster with the addition of Gaff. Also add to the fact that a fully fit Cox and Natanui is a imposing ruck combination.
Defence, well they are a bit thin. Glass has to take the best forward and play well. Brown is alright but still they are a bit thin.
Read my reply. It is directed at you because you have double standards

ebo, masten, priddis, selwoods.....between em they can't hit the side of a barn. More turnovers than a bakery and until they fix that no bloody show.

I dont think so CK.

He knows how to find the ball, a skill that cant always be taught. Remember, the Weagles mid-field is piss poor and he is and has been under pressure everytime he gets it.

I expect him to become a better than average AFL mid-fielder.

Same. Good kid with a good work ethic. He was the star of the SA under 18 team and I'm pretty sure his kicking wasn't an issue. He's no Matt Priddis.

I didnt mean his ability to find the ball. Its his kicking that is a major fault. It is generally no good. Its got nothing to do with the eagles being under pressure, he has always had a erratic kick. Iv played a lot with him from juniors right through to SANFL under age sides (against him at this point in time), and his kicking was always a major problem of his.

If he had an elite kick, he would be up there with the most promising players in the league, because he is courageous, a good leader, and finds the ball extremely well. He just cant kick

If anyone thinks we will be competitive with Priddis,Embley,Ebert, (to name a few) getting 70 touches and turning 50 of them over is dreaming. Worsha really needs to grow some balls and drag them for turning it over and if ya keep burning it ya miss out till you dont. These blokes train everyday and cant hit targets without pressure, its something ya got or not and these blokes fall in the not catergory imo. If something isnt working you do your best to fix it,so if they keep burning it ******* try your best to fix it... Priddis you go alright but dont kick it cause you cant, simple as that..

The Eagle's desire to win that game against Collingwood went out the window as soon as the AFL decreed that the NAB Cup final would be played at Etihad Stadium.

If there was a chance of a home final they'd have played much better.

They weren't going to bust a gut for the 'privilege' of a trip to Melbourne next weekend.

What a load of horse5hit. If they were a better team they'd have played much better the end. If that's all it takes to deflate the Eagles there's not much air in the tyres to begin with.
