Thirds:
To label West Torrens' Premiership win as an upset is definitely justified when you consider the following:

Glenelg won six matches on the trot heading in to the Grand Final, the last five were as follows:

Rd 19: 38.23 (251) vs Sturt 5.7 (37)
Rd 20: 31.12 (198) vs South 11.12 (78)
Rd 21: 18.12 (120) vs Torrens 5.8 (38)
2nd S: 32.15 (207) vs Central 12.14 (86)

West Torrens were third after Round 21, 3 games behind Central in 2nd spot, losing to them in the Qualifying Final, then narrow wins over Norwood (17 pts) and Central (5 pts), would suggest that a win to Glenelg in the GF was inevitable. But Torrens won it by 13 points, 17.14 to 14.19.

1974 - Grades changed to what they are currently known as - Reserves, Under 19s and Under 17s

Reserves:
In Round 7 1975, at the 28 minute mark of the third quarter, a player count was conducted and it was found that there were 19 West Adelaide players were on the field. West were leading by two goals, 6.7 to 4.7. Effectively it became 4.7 to 0.0. Woodville still outscored West in the last quarter - 2.4 to 1.2, to win by 39 points, 6.11 to 1.2. Had the score not been rubbed out, West would have won by two points.

1977
Under 17s:
North had three draws during the year, two consecutively:

Rd 15: North 16.3 Norwood 14.15

I think that you will find that David Hookes was dropped for the Grand Final after playing every game for the year. That was the story he used to tell anyway.

I daresay you're right. Well he made the final 24 anyway (as per the Budget). Some pretty fair names in that Glenelg side - Kym Hodgeman, Paul Weston and Stephen Copping (the one who was nowhere near as good as Roger Woodcock).

Hookesy didn't play the GF according to his autobiography released after his death. IIRC he hardly played football after that and possibly went to England for a winter of leagues cricket in 74???

instead he became an avid spectator from the West Torrens Cricket club and mysteriously one year a large tree suddenly died......
