KANE BROTHERS JOIN THE TIGERS
Glenelg Football Club adds Ben and Chris Kane along with Sam Rudolph to their 2007
playing list, whilst also welcoming back Josh Willoughby and Jack Juniper who will also don
the black and gold come the 2007 season.
Ben Kane, the 23 year old former Hawk has signed with the Bays for the 2007 season. Ben
played 14 AFL games for Hawthorn Football Club, since his league debut in 2003. Described
as a ‘quick and aggressive midfielder’ Ben will assist the Club by adding strength and ferocity
to its midfield.
Chris Kane, Ben’s younger brother will join him at Glenelg in 2007. From the Eastern
Rangers, Chris is an all round utility player, and at just 18, with further experience and game
education has great potential to play consistent senior level football.
Also from Victoria is 22 year old defender Sam Rudolph, from the VFL Box Hill Hawks.
Rudolph is a quick player who will be utilised predominantly at half back and will prove to be
an exciting player to watch this season.
Josh Willoughby, originally from Bordertown in the South East has played one senior game
for the Tigers before being drafted to the Sydney Swans in 2003 where he was listed for 3
years. Josh’s versatility will allow him to be played as a goal kicking small forward, midfielder
or defender.
Jack Juniper, a key position player, is another returned Tiger. The former Sacred Heart
Collegiate, Juniper has spent the past 2 years on the rookie list at Fremantle and has
impressed, playing consistent games for Perth Football Club in defence.
Glenelg Football Club is also proud to announce 2006 Magarey Medallist Brett Backwell will
again don the black and gold, after recently signing with the Bays for the 2007 season.
Glenelg Football Club welcomes new recruits, the Kane Brothers and Rudolph. The Club is
very proud to have Willoughby and Juniper return to the side along with Backwell continuing
his career at Glenelg for what promises to be a bigger, stronger 2007 season.

North have signed Justin Harris a former Nth Ballarat VFL player who played at Clunes when Owen Weatherley was player/coach in 2004/2005.

Harris is described as a very solid 90kgs at only 178 cm in height. He is a lighting fast on baller who is leading the time trials at North. He could be a very handy pick up given Campbell has gone.

Yeah I was listening to most of the show, it was quite good with people like Ben Hook running it instead of the usual peanuts. Mouse interview was good. Mouse didn't seem too happy with the Glenelg FC but said there was nothing he could do about it especially in regard to how the club keeps pissing off all his good mates from the club. Sounded like Glenelg were lucky to get another 12 months out of him like they will in 2007.

Billy Neely would be a great pick up for Sturt.

Rumoured on the Hills forum that James Gallagher may be playing for a club in the Hills League. Not sure how accurate this is, but thought it was worth reporting on here.

I believe there was a Gallagher who played junior footy at Sturt a few years ago, so who knows could be him, but if it is James (from Norwood) would be a huge loss you'd have to think.

If so, some pretty disappointing efforts by some clubs (some may have had no money to play with but some may have)

Certainly agree there. Our "biggest" recruit seems to be Ben Schwarze and I didn't even knew who he was!

In your opinion who has done well and who has been disappointing. Is there a list somewhere of all the changes to each club?

My uneducated view on it at this stage without knowing all the ins and outs:

Sturt - seem to have recruited young no names in numbers hoping for a diamond in the rough? Not a bad way to go IMO. MacGowan can mould the club he wants and they should be competitive in the reserves. Remembering they don't have a heap of money to spend and they are not likely to challenge deep into September this year anyway.

West - Some big name recruits. Looking for a fix straight away? Weidemann knows if he doesn't get it right he's finished. They may challenge for a final 5 position in 2007, but may not be in any better position by 2008.

Glenelg - look as if they have boosted their midfield stocks well. Have been hurt with the inevitable loss of Gibbs to the draft, but should be on the improve again.

Norwood - a bit like Sturt, not a lot of money to play with, but look to have gone more for quality than quantity. Have sured up their defence with some ex-AFL key backmen which was the area they badly needed to improve on. They'll hope they get some use of their AFL listed players to remain around the mark for a finals birth.

Eagles - pretty quiet off-season for them. Have lost a few. Like Norwood, seem to have gone with quality over quantity to add to an already strong list.

Port - similar to West. Have lost a few, but recruited quite a few as well. They should challenge for the finals again, but like West, I question whether they have what it takes to be consistent with so many players going through the turnstiles.

North - looks very promising after enticing quite a few ex NAFC players back and picking up a quality midfielder (which was much needed). They now look strong in the midfield and back to add to their already potent forward line.

Central - have recruited some quality to replace the group of players who departed after 2005. Look to have done well.

South - have lost a couple of key players, but have replaced them with more quality. Not too much action down South way over the off-season it seems.

In summary, I can see improvement coming from West, Central, North, Glenelg and South. I think Port, Eagles, Norwood and Sturt will do no better than last year.

Neither did I. But I had heard of his brother! Then again, I'd never heard of Powell, Inkster, Lindsay, Colville, Jarrad or Passador before we recruited them neither! From reading around the forums, it looks as if Schwarze and Rimmington will be pretty good.

If he decided not to give SANFL another shot, for sure he will play with onkas as they would love to have him back there also. The eagles coach told adam last night that he was wanted adam at the eagles a couple years back but sturt didnt want a bar of that!"

Adam is an in and under type of player with solid skills. He can be credited with getting the quick handball out but was often caught for being too slow in his disposal. Solid work ethic and an alround good club man.
