Centrals by plenty. Ive attended a few WAFL games in the last couple of years and I think the top couple of sides match up ok but the bottom 4 or 5 would be pushed by half our ressies sides. Thought standard was very average at best

How could they possibly have beaten the SANFL in the state game then Jim???

I can't see the point of it. Matches of this type were played years ago and were only taken semi-seriously by all concerned. Some sides even declined to play and runners up filled in.

Centrals and Norwood gave absolutely everything in the GF. That's what I like to see. Pre/Post/Mid season exhibition matches are just not the same.

After that I think standards drop fairly quickly. I can only go on what ive seen and I was very disappointed with nearly every game ive attended. I may be wrong but its just an opinion

The last two WAFL vs SANFL games have been relatively close for sure.

This included things like players having 1 cab charge to share between 4 for when out on free time and also not taking over a travelling emergency as the 23rd man in case something went wrong the night before or the morning of the game.

My initial reaction was wow, then some sckeptism then checking out the web site which seems legit ... wow again.

Given NT Thunder play in the Qld comp this would be the first TRUE national aussie rules comp with every state having a chance of being involved.


Based on 2010 standings the 16 teams would be

It did mention it would be an FA cup style competition,

i wonder if that meant the Draw would be completely random,

Plenty of grey areas would need to be resolved ala whether AFL listed players can play

Also matching teams up with the bye on the same weekend could prove difficult especailly if it is a FA Cup style random draw.

Seems to good to be true but if it gets off the ground would be sensational!

However it does sound like most of the funding would be coming from Foxtel and you wonder how much they would get out of it from a ratings/advertising/subcription point of view in relation to the money it would take to underwrite the expenses.

Having said that I have thought for quite sometime that Foxtel are missing out on a niche market when it comes to state based comps such as the SANFL, VFL & WAFL.

The official participation "deadline" is today so I'll be interested to see what comes out in the Adelaide and Melbourne based Murdoch media - as well as the official league websites - over the next few days. Nothing as yet as far as I can see.

So looking at the article I take it that Norwood playing in the comp would be like my Munster playing in both the Magners League and the Heineken Cup. Both running at the same time so they have to alternate games between the two.

Also sounds like the entire thing is the creation of the Evil Empire so only interest is profit and not the game, players etc. The idea of the comp is nice in theory BUT as a geo-challenged I'd worry it would be the death of SANFL and the death any hope of following live games in the future...so I'm sorry but I'm in the 'no' camp at the moment on purely selfish grounds.

Its all part of AFL's big plan i reckon. I forget who said it but i seem to recall someone from AFL a few years back saying that one day we will have a two tier league with promotion and relegation. You may laugh now but 10 years ago you said there would be gold coast and GWS in a 18 team comp you would have been laughed at. If this challenge comp goes ahead perhaps the winner could go up and the wooden spooner relegated. It would ensure no tanking and the AFL would love the fact that teams would play out the year because every result would count. Could be some issues but with AFL funds and support it could work. Imagine this year Central v Swan Districts with winner going to AFL and West Coast relegated back to WAFL. Seems far fetchef but i think it will become a reality one day. NSW and QLD leagues have already changed names to QLD AFL and NSW AFL. I think one day we will have a genuine Div 1/Div 2 or even a US conference style setup. The AFL Could then show up to 20 games per week and play midweek games. Bit outrageous at moment but who knows in 10 years tim
