Donuts only if you are an uneducated North American. ;) [It is like "tonite" and "thru".]
They were called Doughnuts because they were made from a dough.
i.e. "flour or meal combined with water, milk, etc., in a mass for baking into bread, cake, etc.; paste of bread."
Not- "2. any similar soft, pasty mass." or "3. Slang . money."
Although meaning 2. may apply to some of the plastic-like ones I've come across.

...and another one I've noticed around here...

If it's a curved coastline it's a 'bight'...if it involves teeth or insects it's a 'bite'

Homer eats from Donut King, and the Coles ones I buy for work are labelled doughnuts, so being Australian, I'm with the latter...

And I want them to bring back David Tench Tonight, not tonite... Mind you, I am guilty of that on Facebook...

Was watching an old movie last night (Bachelor Party) and noticed a bloke wearing a Sports Jacket with the patches on the elbows.

Obviously I've seen this plenty of times in the films, so now I need to know:

a) Was this really a trend?
b) If so, WTF was it???

Happy to be corrected but I believe that originally it was a shooting jacket which had a leather patch on the shoulder to protect it from the gun.
The elbows had "matching" patches as a fashion statement
