Griff was probably lucky to still be on the list for this year so getting something for him was probably a bonus. Ultimately Jacobs only costs a mid 30's pick which is good value considering Cartlon's requests and his market value after a good finals series.

Matt Rendall has said they only let him go for that pick because of compassionate grounds, he was actually worth more.

Personally i dont think the Crows really improved with their trades.

They get Jacobs but his average at best pretty much exactly the same as Griffin, no real improvement there imho.

I reckon the Crows have done very well out of it. They wanted an outside runner to replace McLeod and got one with pace whose best footy is still ahead of him IMO.

Sorry, but can't see Griffin ever having 40odd hitouts in an important match against a good ruckman as did Jacobs in the elimination final.

He played one really good game against the Swans. The rest of the season he was OK without being good/outstanding, just like Griffin.

Griffin would be ahead of Sauce at this stage IMO.

Yep totally agree Jacobs has been grossly over-rated based on one performance, the rest of the season he was OK at best, his form when playing in the VFL was average as well,

where as Griffin has played a couple of good AFL games but has also dominated SANFL games.

Jacobs will never be part of an AFL premiership side.

Essentially the Crows have replaced a third ruckmen for a third ruckmen but have lost a draft pick.

Not great business imho.

It is if you want to do the right thing by a player whose heart is not in SA due to family reasons over the border.

I think all the Adelaide trades have been reasonable trades with something in them for both parties.

That = good trading IMO.

Well, most of the Carlton fans who posted on BF that I read feel like they have been raped by the Crows on this one so I guess it's a matter of opinion.

I think the consensus opinion is that Jacobs will be a better player in the long run overall and in terms of passion for the Crows jumper, Jacobs wanted to come play for us whereas Griffin didn't.

Trading by definition is most times a zero-sum game with both parties involved feeling they have made a small win. No-one expects these days to come up with some obvious win out of a trade - otherwise the trade won't happen!

WHUFC they AFC have definately won with these trades. Griffen was never going to get any better, where as Jacobs has shown improvement throughout the year. Griffen also lacks competativeness and has never dominated a game and doesnt have the ability to. AFC added pace as they needed to, got a better ruckman than they had, kept their first trade and dont forget trades arent that important to us due to having ayoung talented list already and the draft being tainted.

Im not against the Tambling trade,

How often have you seen Jacobs play, to say they have got a better ruckmen is very very very debatable, as has been said before he played only one dominant game all year and even struggled when he was back in the VFL, remember Carltons weakness has been ruckmen and he still hasnt always being in their best 22.

Griffin does have potential if used in the right way, he is also very capable of going forward as well which was shown when he played at Centrals.

WHUFC - Griffin doesn't want to be here, that's the point

However good he could be - he won't be that good at the Crows because his heart is over the border

as a non bias oppinion, i think the crows have done well with the Jacobs pick up.
Griffen was given plenty of opportunity and did bugger all with them, jacobs is still only young around 21 i think and it is common knowledge ruckman develop later, IMO will be a bloody good ruckman in time, as for the Tambling trade i have been one of his biggest critics over his time at richmond but in saying that i think it could be worth a punt, obviously can play just needs to get the best out of himself, its all a waiting game now to see if he delivers or fails like he was at richmond

Yeah re tambling i was talking about AFC whole effort dureing trade period, not saying you were against that trade.

I do take a keen interest in the Carlton games as my parents used to support them pre AFC. From what i have seen, potential wise Jacobs is ahead of Griff. Gridd just doesnt seem to compete well enough for me. Jacobs i think has the capacity to be far better than Griff. Once again is alway our personal opinion, but its AFC's opinion and they obviously think they can get the best out of Tambling and Jacobs. I hope their right

Carltons weakness has been ruckmen? Kruezer is a superstar, they paid alot for Warnock and therefore there is pressure to play him and Hampson and Jacobs have been around the mark and Carlton wanted to keep both. Although I am an Adelaide fan first, I am a Carlton fan second but believe the Crows have come out on top here. Griffin couldnt get 10 hitouts against Mumford let alone 40. I think Carlton paid picks 24 and 56 for Warnock and Sydney paid 28 for Mumford so the currency seems about right. At that stage Warnock had played 11 games and Mumford 21 compared to 17 for Jacobs, including a ripper final.

Griffin was always going so getting Jacobs was important.

It's actually Laidler and apparently the deal is done now. Laidler + pick 41 to Carlton. Pick 36 + 53 to Geelong.
