Probably not "haters", more envious. Anyway, why wouldn't other clubs be envious of what Geelong have done recently and clubs that have been on the wrong end of Geelong wins over the last few years ( mine included ) have every right to be enjoying seeing them suffer some pain in recent days.As much as we like seeing our own team win, we all have teams we like to see suffering.

Sure, the picture is bigger than Geelong / Ablett, is is about our competition, new clubs recruiting abilities etc etc. But it's the way it is now. Loyalty went out the window with manners and respect sometime in the 80's and people, which is what Gary Ablett is, will do their best to secure their own futures. No-one blames him for that.

To be honest, until my team plays the Suns, I couldn't care less about them.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

- He helped deliver 2 premierships
- He contributed to your club dominating the competion for an extended period of time

He's done enough to deserve to be treated with respect.

The AFL should be the target for fans anger if they feel the need to dump on someone. Even then - I'm pretty sure most clubs had a say in what concessions the GC would get when they were proposed a couple of years back. It's too late to cry foul now.

- Bargain basement? People having a crack at Geelong's father/son selections have the benefit of 20/20 hindsight. Ablett was nothing more than a promising junior whose progress was fast tracked at Geelong by the Ablett name. Scarlo is another. He was dead set ordinary earlyy on but because he didn't turn out to be a spud like Jason Cloke (or David Clarke for that matter) all of a sudden it's 'lucky Geelong - bargain basement. Bull5hit.

- He helped deliver. Yes, he did because he was developed by the club, in other words I rate the efforts of Stephen Wells, Neil Balme, Mark Thompson, Brenton Sanderson, Frank Costa and Brian Cook's contributions as far more important to the resurgence of the GFC than Gary Ablett's on field efforts. Another thing that was developed was the sense of team. In other words top players accepted less than what they were worth so the group could stay together. Then all of a sudden two teams overtake us and the bloke with the most market value pissess off with on the bigest paycheck in the history of the game. If you can respect that good luck to you but as far I am concerned he is a dead set sell out.

- The fans are entitled to cry fowl as much as they like. There is no one more loyal than a fan. Not many fans swap clubs. If the most loyal part of the football community doesn't have the right to cry fowl against disloyalty then there is no passion in the game so why bother? After all it wasn't the fans who agreed to give the Gold Coast **** the world why we lose our best player.

A couple of points (and at risk of faning the flames!):

- Never said Geelong were 'lucky' to get Ablett.
- Frank Costa/Brian Cook signed off on the consessions that eventually let to Ablett's departure, yet they escape your resentment?
- From the vision I've seen from the club champion last night the club seems not to share your sentiments about him being a sell out. The people who know him well still seem to respect him, which says something to me.

You mentioned Burger before. Imagine if you had Essendon, Lions, Crows fans all lining up to troll you....on this site, not Big Footy where you can expect that stuff. That wouldn't exactly make your day I'm sure. I can't recall many Burger sledges on this site....except for when my 5hitburger thread of 2008 blew up in my face DOH.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of what has happened, accept that and everyone move on.

PS i hope Ablett has an injury plagued season next year...

Don't worry Ginge I'm quite calm although I think the Missus has hidden all the razors...my beard is growing rapidly! I always fire up with comments about the father/son rule because you've still got to develop the player. We had Woolnough, Clarke and Donohue that didn't make the grade so it's not exactly a science to get it right. You SA boys though have a right to get steamed up about father son because your lads got ripped off by the AFL.

Yeah Costa and Cook do escape my resentment as they had far more to do with the ending of Geelong's premiership drought than any one player, even Ablett. In this thread one geniear5e suggested we wouldn't have won a flag without Ablett. OK, 2009 I can cop but were miles in front of the rest in 2007. Unlike Carlton we aren't a one man team. Also, every other club voted for the concessions as has been pointed out but do you see Buddy Franklin or Nick Riewoldt playing in front of 10,000 bemused Queenslanders next year? No, because they are the ones who are trully worthy of respect.

As for the Club respecting Ablett I don't have a problem with that. The dummy spitting should always be done by the fans and we haven't let the side down ha ha.

Cheers.

So your definition of being hard is to bend over and smile while the AFL greases you up and shafts you from behind? No thanks, I'll defend my club from the multitude of trolls who support lesser clubs who have sprung out of the woodwork all of a sudden because the AFL has managed to do what their team could not.

I think that it isn't a coincidence that not many Saints and Pies fans have been laying in to us. They know they can beat us where it counts. They also know another bull5hit 'club' is coming in next year and that they might be next on the hitlist.

Cmon mate, being a bit precious there aren't you? Not sure how many people are actually laying into your club, I certainly wasn't but more seeing it for what it is.

The old days of footballers having jobs away from the game is gone ... You or I can switch jobs for better money and that's perfectly acceptable yet when a footballer does it to significantly improve their primary source of income, disappointed supporters throw the baby out with the bath water.

Understand and appreciate that the loss of such a star hurts, but FFS it's been going on for years .. The fact that he might not have been as good a player wouldn't make a shred of difference to the young Bomber fans who idolised Wanganeen before he moved to the Power.

It'll be sweet to see how Geelong go about taking him out of the game now, considering he's been such a pain in the arse for other teams for four years or so.

I think Ling would be good around the stoppages but dont think he would be able to keep up with him around the field...
