For what its worth, I vehemently disagree with extra time, and feel it should always be a replay. The right to determine the best team of a full season, IMHO, shouldn't come down to 10 minutes of football at the end of an exhausting game - but what are the thoughts of posters on this?

Completely agree

x 3

I can't believe people actually want extra time. Today and next week will be something that I will always remember and something that I will be able tell my kids and grandkids about. It's a unique part of our game that has only happened twice before today - and the victory next week will be one of the most famous in the history of the game.

Why wouldn't you want to be part of that?

3 times [ i believe ] a draw in the grand final in well over a 100 years of AFL/VFL footy and everyone is carrying on like it's the end of the world.
play it again, like has happened before and may the best team win

Once again one of the traits that makes our game individual and unique.

Who cares what the rest of the world does?

In the AFL if we draw we come back next week.

Bring it on...

Play it again, the last 10 mins of that game were why there were 100,016 people there today and god knows how many watching at home and every where else around the universe. Give them all 7 days to recover (god knows they are gonna need it) and then let em have another crack.
Trust the process.

From the selfish view of somebody who spent a lot of $$$$$$$$$$ and has travelled over from Adelaide for the game- EXTRA TIME IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST.

If I was say a Carlton supporter sitting at home or the pub- then yep, bring on the replay.

Logistically it has thrown up so many issues for the clubs.

Draw result -

During the Minor Round = Draw
During the Finals = Extra Time
In a Grand Final = Replay
In a GF Replay = Extra Time

WTF?

Just play Extra Time in every scenario and has some consistency in the game.

Only positive is that some real members/fans will be able to attend the GF and there will be less corporates

Extra time is a requirement in all lead up finals to the Grand Final
Otherwise the g/f day is put back at least 1 week, as well as other teams getting an extra week off etc, there4 there are several difinitives

The g/f does not interlude and affect other teams apart for the participants of the day
There4 a reply is the only way to go

And if its a draw come back the week after again

5 minutes or whatever it is each way is a crappy way to finish
What if after extra time its still a draw ?
Shall we then get players to take place kicks at the goals ...

You give your all for 4qtrs (maybe knowing you have no reserves left) - You tie and then extra time > favours a team with interchange.

It MUST be replayed

the best way to do it IF they do change it isthe next goal (not score) wins & the timekeepers do not blow the siren until that goal is scored

No different to soccer. Normal season a draw is a draw.
Finals - Extra time, still no result - penalties. It's still 3 different ways to decide games in one sport.

I really dunno why SA people would support the replay when the AFL want to move the game into October, but so be it.

I still think it was fine when the rule was brought in and everyone lived a short horse ride away from the oval and there was a distinct separation between footy and cricket seasons, but in the busy modern era with a national sport it's a logistical nightmare for many.

The AFL are very lucky it's two Melbourne based clubs.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Is that where they keep playing until someone scores? That would've been amazing after the battle that took place to smash out a win like that.

Why does it matter, even a bit, if the rest of the world doesn't understand our game? It's not like we need to export it.

I agree. I think the problem is we are dealing with the "gotta get a result" and "gotta have it now" generation of people who don't have the patience to wait an extra week. Geez if they had their way, they'd even do away with the extra 10 minutes (why should we have to wait another 10 minutes) and toss a coin to decide the winner. Just toss the coin and we can all go an get sloshed.

A replay, no question. The outstanding spectacle was umpired magnificently, which begs the question. Why can't the game be umpired as it was yesterday all season?
The best umpires are those who don't get noticed and this was the case yesterday with no constant talk or barking directions at players, keep it like that and supporters have no reason for complaints.

I am 100% for a full replay.

How good is next weeks 100+ minutes of football going to be. After 22 minor round games and three finals we still are yet to find out who the best team of 2010 will be.

I cant wait for it and, what else will people talk about for the next week?

Mrs.Boon and 3 of her girlfriends areoff to Melbourne next weekend for their annual champagne weekend and look out Fed Square on Saturday!

Oh, and I get the house to myself for 3 Grand Finals. AFL, SANFL, NRL. Oh yes!!!!!
