Jack Viney a Crow ?

Postby the joker » Tue Sep 07, 2010 4:46 pm

i heard a rumour over the weekend that the Crows will snatch young Viney from under Melbournes nose ( they have already said they will draft him father son in 2011 draft).
But i heard that Gws are aloud to draft seven 17 year olds and Jack will be drafted to them but traded on to the crows for a couple of draft picks. and the Crows think they are very close.

What do Melbourne supporters think of that? it will be a major Coup for the crows

Very interesting if they can get around the father son rule like that.

From the Age:

ADELAIDE will not be able to prise Melbourne father-son prospect Jack Viney as easily as it had hoped.

The Crows were exploring a potential loophole in the soon-to-be-finalised Team GWS draft concessions, where the new team will be given four additional selections outside the draft, which it must trade to other clubs. The selections must then be used on 17-year-old players.

Adelaide planned to convince GWS to nominate Viney, the 16-year-old son of former Melbourne captain and current Crows assistant coach Todd, as one of those players, and then trade for him next year, should he decline to join the Demons as a father-son pick at the end of 2012.

However, under the rules, GWS has nothing to do with which particular 17-year-olds are nominated or chosen. Clubs must effectively bid for the four picks by trading players and/or draft picks to the new club, which will then assign the picks, in order from one to four, to the teams that make them the best offer.

I agree, otherwise they'd get Libbas lad (Bulldogs) & Barry Mitchell's lad (Swans) & Jimmy Buckleys lad (Carlton). I dare say if Melbourne commit to him the GWS have no say at all....

I thought you would just be happy with Adelaide attempting to do a trade at all.

Bit rough coming from a port supporter i would think. Both Adelaide sides and trading do not match up well!
