CROWS 2011

Talk on the national game

Fremantle skipper Matthew Pavlich is yet to confirm whether he'll be at the AFL club next season, playing down suggestions he has missed the chance to deliver a major morale boost ahead of Saturday's elimination final against Hawthorn.
Pavlich is almost certain to re-sign with the Dockers but has put contract talks with the club on hold until the end of Fremantle's season, claiming it wasn't necessary for him to announce his intentions just yet
Still hope of Pav coming home or going to Gold Coast, but i think he will stay at the dockers.

No chance for Adelaide IMO.

Carlton and the Gold Coast are chasing hard and i think would be the only chances for him. Personally i think he will stay at Fremantle.

I really don't think Pavlich fits with where the club is headed now, and am really surprised that people are still throwing his name around as someone to target. If we are to recruit anyone they need to be in their early to mid twenties with about 100 games under the belt.

To have success a squad really needs to develop and mature together. If we were at the point where we needed short term improvement to challenging for a flag then I'd be all up for it. This is not the case though, and we are at the stage where it is now about long term development rather than short term 'top ups'.

Agreed - that's why I thought the most he would be worth would be a straight swap for Griffin.

Why would he want to go to Carlton??

He will stay at Freo or move back home if anything!

Pavlich would suit a club that has a quality midfield, but a lack of forward targets to make the most of this. Both Collingwood and Carlton fit this bill, but I think he will stay where he is, particularly with Fremantle's encouraging form this year.

I can't see Pavlich leaving Freo unless he actually wants to return home, and if he did I think he would have done it long ago.
I expect he'll stay at Freo, and is just hoping to use the risk that GC or GWS, or some other team, will buy him to get a really good contract renewal where he is.

Interesting article in the Advertiser today about Adelaide's trade targets:

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl/the-adelaide-crows-have-stepped-up-the-chase-for-stars-in-a-recruiting-mission/story-e6frecoc-1225913168026

Schammer could be a very likely one for Griffin. He has struggled to maintain a spot in the Freo lineup but he has shown in the past that he has great talent. A move home could be what he needs to return to form.

I said to a few mates a couple weeks ago we should target Lindsay Thomas...he's exactly what we need a quick, crumbing small forward who can kicks bags of goals. Would also have the luxury to play Porps wherever we wish.

The Herald Sun is reporting that Griffin has signed with the Bulldogs for another 2 years. That's one down.

I like it. Stuff playing him in the backline, he needs to be on a wing rotating through the middle.

Griffin and 2nd round pick for hurn would be good buying. Either second round or the bock pick.

Dont think West Coast would let Hurn go unless he requests a trade.

West Coast see him as a future Captain and is already in the leadership group, highly valued player at WCE.

West Coast don't really need a ruckman at this stage either. I think a deal with Freo for Schammer would be a more likely win win deal for both parties.

would the Crows really want Schammer, has been in the system for many years now, is handy at best, lacks pace and isn't the most highly skilled player going around add to that he is very much one dimensinal, plays on the ball and thats about it really.

Best thing i can say about him is he wins his own ball.

Personally i wouldnt waste my time on Schammer

i dont think the crows need another Schammer like player, hurn would be great although i doubt it will happen.
i think Ebert is a big chance to come back home at the end of his contract (when ever that is)

All your points are true, but I think given that all we have to offer is Griffin (who is also a handy at best player who's been in the system a few years), we can't be too choosy. Adelaide fans always seem to over-inflate the value of their discards at this time of the year - you can't expect to trade boiled lollies and get chocolate in return.

Schammer is definitely a bit of a punt, but I guess I am banking on his form improving with a return to his home state. I think he is an in and under player that would add some toughness, and could play as a small forward if necessary. We are not going to get any better type of player for Griffin I'm afraid, Hurn is no chance IMO.
