THis sounds interesting, because we are currently with internode and I like their service. If the phone line currently stops on the outside wall though, would internode be able to take it from there or would I still need to get telstra to set something up initially?
And yes, people calling us is something I need to consider too.
Sploosh, nup, you can get rid of the line completely. Telstra will do that for you (and hence they can't say they are providing you a line, and hence can't charge the landline rental fee) as part of the installation with Internode. I was on the 25g $59.95 a month and decided to go naked. The costs are about $270 to set up but then that's only 3 or 4 Telstra bills. The plan I'm on is now 25g $69.95 with $10 free calls.
The ONLY problems we have now is that I can't use the box office facility on Foxtel and can't "vote" on one of those stupid voting things. Oh, also I can't use the Foxtel guide on line and record programs remotely. Small inconvenience for them not charging me $50 or $60 a bill for nothing.
I've read on here that you can use some alternate phone service for naked and it's like 1c per call or something. I haven't investigated it because we're not using the $10 worth of calls anyway.
I also have Fox and no phone line I get 2 free Box Office movies per month I was told I can ring up to order them and dont need the phone line, havent tried it though

gadj you CAN'T get rid of the line completely. Telstra still own the copper pair to your house and a service IS being provided over that pair. Only thing is you are not Telstra's customer in this case. Internode is now the customer and pay Telstra the rental on the pair. Google "Unbundled Local Loop" Cheers

Don't be silly Kahuna, didn't you know electrons can jump from the roadside to your house without any means?
I use VOIP through http://www.engin.com.au .. uses the foxtel cable and plugs into the wireless router ( I think thats how it works - my late DH set it up for me).. have had it for 5 years now and my biggest bill has been 20 bucks for the month... the line can be a bit dodgy sometimes but perfect for those long calls to AGL, Telstra the bank etc and keeps the rellies happy too, specially the ones on the pension..
RIP my DH 1964 - 2009 - You were one of the best and I miss you

Dropped the home phone about 2 years after.
Only have Telstra Broadband line that I pay for and a Vodafone mobile that work picks the tab up on.
Works well for me.
As I'm in a cable area, I did consider cable broadband. However, it costs $40 for 2GB (http://go.bigpond.com/broadband/9-plan/), whereas 3's wireless is $29 for 2GB or $39 for 6GB.

We've got two phone numbers because our internet exchange is lame. We used to have a naked connection with Adam but when we moved we could only get ADSL2 or something (I get confused with all these different internet whatsits), so we had to rent the line from Telstra but we kept our internet phone account too. So we don't use the Telstra account but we run the Adam one off the Telstra line. Fortunately Mr McSpaz works at Adam so we get a massive discount.
Hey Goose, ya big stud! Take me to bed or lose me for ever.
For customers with BigPond Multiple Product Benefit
Min. cost $2397.60 + $9.95 delivery fee
24 x Dog_ger $59.95 = $1438.8
Doesn't come close Kahuna my friend....
Comment Kahuna....
24 X $49.95= $1198.80. This is for the Internet component only. Multiple Product Benefit (which gets you the $20/month discount) means you must have a full service phone with Telstra and one additional service eg a mobile. $2397.60 - $1198.80 = $1198.80. $1198.80 is what they have calculated you will pay for the minimum qualifying products,HomeLine Plus and a $20/month post paid mobile. Assuming you have a landline and a mobile with Telstra what is wrong with the offer? Your current internet cost leaves you $959 for land line & mobileas opposed to $1198.80. You will also get 5 times your current download limit. Up to you
One other thing Dog_ger,the current plan you are on is ancient history so you must be out of contract with Telstra. This is important as it give you a negotiating edge. Ring Disconnections on 137663 and tell them you want to disconnect because your plan is poor value. At the very least they will upgrade you to a more generous plan. Depends on your negotiating skills what you get, they will not want to lose your business so don't accept the first thing they offer. It is a game of brinkmanship,18 months or so ago I was on the 12 gig plan and well out of contract, rang up and ended up with 25 gig and a speed increase for no extra cost and no contract. They did tell me it was only a 6 month deal but when the time was up I rang again, they refunded (credited) the extra I had paid since my deal expired and away it went again. I have since signed up for the $49.95 50 gig deal,Bigpond Cable Elite and am happy with what I have.
Disclaimer: I am a Telstra employee,if you think that clouds my judgement,so be it but I don't see why you can't do better for your money, whether with Telstra or another company.
