Re: SAAFL Div 2 & 2R (2010)
So all that's left is to determine who gets home finals, which I dont think is as obvious as it'd seem.
With the top 5 teams playing the bottom 5 teams, every lower team has the opportunity to finish with their heads high, and make their mark on the final series (bar Flinders).
Should make for an interesting end to the minor rounds.

Uni and Eastern Park are my tip for the GF and the money Uni have spent will be well worth it with a premiership and promotion to Div 1.
Uni - Quality team, quality height in all key posts and the skillful runners to match hard to see them getting beaten
PHOS - Well coached but lack the match winners to challenge. They dont like the Phsyical stuff and this will expose them in finals. The weed will need to get them over the line IMO
EP - Just clicking into gear. They do rely heavily on Miller, Butler, Gatto, Wilson, Hamilton and then the rest of the team falls away. If a team can get infront of them i cant see them pegging back a deficit. God Help anyone who has to travel there for a final
ROCs - they played well against us and we played poorly so hard to assess them. Naturally rely on Lister to kick goals however ladder position and form would suggest they will be in the same boat as PHOS and Walkies IMO
Walkies - simlar to PHOS didnt impress me that much in the 2 games and we prob should have knocked them off both times and apparently have a few injuries which wont help.
Thats my opinion lads formed purely from the games played against Modbury this season.

How much do you reckon they're paying and to which players?Footy Smart wrote:

My ignorance??? On what grounds do make that statement? (Can I have my hook back
The money/incentives they have obviously spent on players has or will work, this is money well spent.
No point spending cash and getting no rewards, this points to good recruitment. I wasn’t having a go, it’s purely that the additions to the team from last year and the year before has worked and they will get back into div 1 like they have been for many years.

That's ok I'm just interested how these monies & incentives are structured and why it's obvious there is such a structure.Footy Smart wrote:Blacks130 wrote:This will be good, a perfect opportunity for Footy Smart to demonstrate his ignoranceClever Dick wrote:How much do you reckon they're paying and to which players?Footy Smart wrote:

Maybe you could ask at training?
Its no secret that’s how School/UNi based teams attract players as they have no juniors. Often teams that do attract quality players that way don’t get the results that justify the expense.
Blacks don’t get all defensive and start a money/lack of money discussion (this isn’t the div 1 thread

That's a strange call. You dont think we work on getting players out from school when they leave? We do regard the school players as our junior system
No doubt mate, often your lads are involved at league clubs as well and can get lost to other clubs once they have been out of school for a while and leave the SANFL system. Naturally some are attracted to come back with mates and/or want to represent their school again, other may want some incentive.
Its a thing that 90% of clubs in higher divisions use to stay or compete in the higher divisions. My point in the initial post was that Uni have recruited well and will probably get the result they wanted (premierships and promtion) nothing sininster in my motives.

Re: SAAFL Div 2 & 2R (2010)
Footy Smart i think you have your head in the clouds, regarding EP Taylor is also a dominant player and you may be providing comments on reputation with butler, would have been in the best 5 twice this season if lucky. while yes the midfield is relied upon they have a pretty determined ruckmen in Armstrong to help them out a lot. I would also disagree with the rest of the team dropping away its more a case of everyone in the team knowing their role and where they sit within the group and most are capable of stepping up if required take T Gatto haughey and keen all have played div 1 footy and then the defence led by dempsey and walasek is no frills and solid. i also believe modbury were up by 6 goals at one stage during the most recent game between the 2 sides and were beat.
Regarding Uni, you dont think that players like J Mcentee L Mcentee, jack lewis, graeme Kellett are attracted to the club by their personal connection with the heart and soul of that team, the Kurzel brothers, Patrick Mulvhill is another who has a connection with these guys through their younger years. Not saying there might be some incentive to play there but as im sure the case is at modbury i believe the major driving force for these players would be playing with mates.
I think the grand final isnt beyond any of the teams in the finals as indicated by the mixed results between all 5 teams during the minor round and as many people are aware finals is a different ball game and throws up many surprises

I heard the opposite about Uni!
That they don't pay players but use other incentives along the lines of social networking through the vast numbers they have for employment etc.

Yes sorry i left Taylor off the list, quality player indeed and re the last game with EP, it was a massive breeze and the players mentioned above lifted massively in the second half and won the game for them.
UNi i have no doubt they are friends etc and i can more than understand blokes playing with mates. As i also said, im not having a go at UNi re money/incentives, i was infact talking about their recruitment(incentives involved naturally) and the success (achievement of their goal, div 1 and possible premiership) has worked well. They havent bought in players that are just about the cash but now have a quality playing group that actually want success. This is proven by their sustained winning of games this season and their performance to snatch the victory at Modbury on Saturday. Credit to them.

FS, that will teach you to try and introduce some rational discussion into this forum, most cannot look past their clubs eyes to post reasonable comment.
I agree thatn Uni r the teamn ton beat, very well structured, very well coached, 3 giants that can play footy helps a bit as well, PHOS will struggle in finals I nthink, don't nhave the top end quality of Unie or even EP. Cannot write off ROCS if they can get back the form of mid year, I think Walkerville will be very happy with nthe year they have had, will push some sides, but don't think they can play to the oevel of Uni or EP. So i agree I think Unit v EP in gand final. I do worry about EP defence though.

Blacks, if you think that some of your players are playing for the love of their mates, I think you must be delusional. Are they getting cash money, probably not, extend your thinking and imagine what your club could provide to these top end players to entice them to your club. Uni is a proud amateur league club and would not be happy with last couple of years in Div 2 instead of challenging for a Div 1 premiership. It required some action and obviously your administration had the tools required to entice some damn good players to your club, so as FS tried to say, well done and good luck, your club deserves the climb after the year they have had.

my grandfinalists will be uni & rocs. Ep is not up to div 1 standed just look at the oval and the 1930s changerooms.
Re: SAAFL Div 2 & 2R (2010)
Pretty sure the changerooms won't be playing finals this year. The facilities won't stop the team.
