I'll throw in another one from the 1980 Travel Photographer of the Year  to fill in until R&B can post a decent one.

This was more of a working holiday (don't tell the tax payers)...my first overseas deployment. The 2nd and 3rd shots are taken under that bridge.

Looks a bit cold and desolate, JAS :(

The church style looks vaguely Scandinavian, but if you were on deployment, that's not likely?

Falkland Isklands?

Shetland or Orkney Islands?

Not the Falklands...didn't know it existed until 2 years later and there's trees lol.

You're spot on with the first guess...Scandinavia...it was the Cold War and I was on exercise.

The clue is the water...there's a special word to describe what it's doing and that stretch is the worlds biggest of it's kind apparently.

At work also.

I'll put one up in a couple of hours, but feel free to have another go first, JAS.

I see that maelstrom is just south of Bodo. I haven't got up that far, but I'm hoping to next year, with a bit of luck.

Yep R&B I was on a Vulcan Sqn at the time and it was the Norwegian Air Base at Bodo that we were visiting for a NATO Exercise. The Station Commander (he's the one trying to grab the fish) took about half a dozen of us out for a day trip up into the mountains and he brought some fishing gear so we went spinning for pollock...caught at least one each and gave them to a local who was catching them a few metres away to stock up for winter.

Georgeous scenery up there...we went in September so the autumn colours were stunning.

DA I'm sure it would be fun cos the photo's really can't do justice to how turbulent that water actually is although don't know if a canoe would be better than a raft cos I don't think it's like rapids...it's mostly whirlpools...big whirlpools and it's a tidal channel that goes out to sea so quite deep I think.

That's the Matterhorn, looking over the village of Zermatt in Switzerland.

Nice clear day. It's a wonderful place to visit.

I'm 100% sure on this one, so I'll put up another one.

Jas - I googled that spot and apparently that has the strongest tidal current in the world.
It said it was great for fishing due to the number of good sized fish that are swept through in the current.

I wish I'd got up to scandenavia in my travels. With every day I feel I get poorer and poorer and time is a luxury I don't have any more.

Yes, da, it's wonderful Porto.

I once hitchhiked backpacking through southern Norway. Hitched from Oslo to Stavanger, around the coast, then local ferries and buses over the mountains and along the fjords to Voss.
