Jason Akermanis - Foot in mouth thread

Postby Booney » Tue Jul 06, 2010 9:56 am

I had thought we could dedicate a thread to Jason Akermanis that gives us all the ooportunity to highlight his "foot in mouth" moments of which there have been and no doubt will be many more.

Sad part is, Aker is the only person in the known Universe who has no idea that what he is saying is inflammatory or potentially embarrassing for him or his club.

His latest slur on his recent opponent in the VFL calling him "some dribbler" is just another glaring example. If Aker manages to fall arse backwards into a media role and has free reign on what he can say, this thread might just go on and on and on and on.....just like Aker.

I'm a big fan of Akker, he's a character!
Good on him for saying what is true about a lot of taggers.

Big deal. He probably couldn't kick.

I like Aka's tell it how he sees it approach, but sometimes it affects his teammates too much. I can see how they would get a bit shitty over some of the things he says.

He is a character, thats for sure and they are increasingly becoming less and less prevelant in the game and that is a bad thing.

But slagging off a young bloke who was sent out there to do a job is not going to help Aker or the Bulldogs.

Would be GOLD if the young bloke wrote an article on what it is like to play on a washed up old bloke. ;)

Brad Scotts' comments on Aker the other week were interesting.

Characters are becoming less prevalent and Akker is becoming less relevant. I'd rather watch Jumping Jack Flash than listen to Akker's bollocks.

Coaches and players get bagged for saying cliche after cliche but when a player says what he really thinks everyone jumps on him...its little wonder 99.99% of footballers/coaches/ commentators/officials tow the party line with cliche ridden speeches that really tell you nothing except "were taking it one week at a time" yadda yadda... Aker might not always be politically correct but atleast he says what he thinks...As a public we should encourage freedom of speech.

Why did Western Bulldogs have to apologize to the St Kilda Football Club for this?

I'm sure the young player Alistair Smith, the only party who would have any cause to be offended, isn't in the least bit concerned. In fact he probably took it as a compliment that a former Brownlow Medallist was so rattled by him.

At least Aker doesn't come up with banal, cliche-laden comments that most other footballers do in the media.

Am a massive Akka fan.

He says things like they are, without the political niceties every other player seems to follow.

And at the end of the day:

Triple premiership star, Brownlow Medallist, 250+ game AFL player, he obviously knows a bit about the game.

When he speaks, I do take notice...

Problem is the world has become to political correct and when someone speaks out or bucks the trend people run to the hills. I love Aker for what he says he tells it like it is Dennis Rodman did the same thing and what do people want to do sit on them and make examples of the. I give the middle finger to anyone who wants to stop people from being true to what they believe in.

I'm a massive fan of Aker. He is one of the very few players in the AFL who like to voice their opinion instead of agreeing with everybody else on or steering clear of current issue in the game. He gives a different and often interesting point of view to that of a journalists aswell.
